I am the second person of the day scheduled. What goes on? Do they do urine, blood tests again? Can you tell me your exact experience?
Thanks!
I checked into the hospital and was sent to the lab, suitcases in tow, for bloodwork, weigh-in and an xray. Then they took me to my room. The surgeon came in to talk about the procedure and introduce his team. I had about an hour after that to try to relax. Then my bloodwork results came in and I was officially cleared for sleevage. When my time came, they moved me from bed to a gurney and took me away to the recovery area. I met both my surgeons again and the anaetheseologist. They finally wheeled me into the OR. I don't remember how they put me out. I slept off and on the rest of that day (and night).
I went in to the surgical facility and signed in. Waited about ten minutes and was called to the back to change clothes and then was put in a bed. They came in and put the IV in my arm and then the surgeon came in. After he spoke with me for about 5 minutes he walked out and then I met the Anestethist. They put some medicine in my IV and then I woke up in my room already on the sleeved side. It was nothing to it.
I got put into a gown, poked a few time because they couldn't get a vain, got sent up stairs to holding, got a nice cocktail and then wheeled off to the OR. Then I remember waking up to my husband staring at me. The rest was a blur.
Checked in, called me back to change into a gown, started an IV, both doctor and anesthesiologist came to talk to me, took me to surgery, and that's all I remember! I had all the labs ahead of time.
I checked in at 11:00am. Went to the lab waiting area. They took a urine sample to make sure I was not pregnant. Another blood sample.
From there I was brought to a room that had other patients waiting for all kinds of surgeries, each bed had privacy curtains. Changed into my gown.
The nurses came in and introduced themselves, the anesthesiologist, surgeon, and her assistant came in and talked to me one at a time.
they put the things around my calves to keep the blood circulation going, put in my IV, and within an hour I was being wheeled into the operating room.
I remember them sliding me over to the operating table and then I was out.
They woke me up took me to my own room. I stayed overnight. Went home around 1:00pm
It went smoothly and it went by really fast.
Good luck on your special day.
My experience was similar to SethP's. I was in the surgical area and waited for about an hour and a half watching tv and talking to my husband. My surgery was scheduled for 12:30. They took my weight and put an IV in me (no blood work or UA). I was wheeled into the OR and moved to the surgical table under an inflatable mat. I had a warming mat and pressure cuffs on my legs to prevent clots and then I went under. I woke up at the end of the surgery and was wheeled into the recovery room. I noticed the clock and that my surgery took almost 5 hours instead of 2. This was apparently because of a necessary hernia repair that also was needed. I was groggy, but remember being wheeled up to the room and seeing my family. I felt pretty good and started walking the halls in the middle of the night with my husband. I stayed for two day and the second day was the worst day. Things have been good since. Let me know if you have other questions.
I dont remember them doing any more bloodwork or urine tests prior to surgery on that morning. I remember I had to be there at 7:30 am and the surgery was at 9. Doc and anesthesiologist both came to visit prior to surgery. then I was wheeled into operating room and I could already feel the initial dose of something starting to kick in and next thing I knew I woke up in recovery. I let them give me too much morphine and I paid for it later with nausea and lightheadedness.
Oh yes, the inflatable mat.. I was feeling really good at this point, and proceeded to tell everyone in the room how much I love the mat , and asked if they would keep the air in it. The pressure cuffs felt good too. I was feeling warm and happy. They probably thought I was crazy.
I wish they would have taken care my hernia but she could not get to it, and I know she had other patients after me. So eventually I will have to go back to do that Not something I am looking forward to. So nice to hear that your husband was there with you as well
Thats a shame they didnt fix your hernia. Perfect time to do it.
