Default Just got home from surgery!

So my surgery was yesterday (Monday, Sept 10th 2018) and I am so happy to have it over! Got there at about 8am and was in the operating room by 9:30am. The surgical staff were great and I don't remember falling asleep, but boy howdy do I remember waking up in recovery. I felt like absolute hell and was in the worst pain of my life in the recovery room from the intense abdominal pressure. When they took me to my room and had me transfer to my bed it was incredibly painful.

But here's the weird part: They gave me pain meds and I took a nap for a couple hours then got up and started walking and the pain just started to melt away. Every two hours I'd get up, use the bathroom, do my breathing treatments, and walk for longer and longer times. By the time discharge rolled around this morning my pain level was at around a 3 or a 4.

SIDE NOTE: To those reading this about to have the surgery... WALK ALL YOU CAN! THEY ARE TOTALLY RIGHT WHEN THEY SAY TO WALK AND IT WILL HELP!

One of my nurses who had the surgery as well had told me pre-op that the first 4 hours post surgery are the worst and she was right. So I am currently at home, sitting at my desktop computer, typing this post and about to drink this chicken broth and get ready for my final round of pain meds for the day and spending time with my family.

I have an amazing feeling this surgery will change my life :-)

Glad you are feeling well! Keep up the walking, but be sure to rest a lot that first week too. Lots of naps really helped in my recovery!

This surgery will change your life, it is so much fun! I doubt you will need your pain meds for long.

Welcome to the club! You will notice recovery every hour gets better and better. Our weights looks almost identical and take a look and see how you will enjoy the ride!! Just picture yourself one year from surgery date. I found best results by being almost militaristic in my regimen daily and that helped keep me focused. I had so many alarms on my phone that first two weeks reminding/prompting me what to do, that it took several minutes to delete them after I had the routine down. I really thought the rest and hydration really got me through that first phase. I can not remember sleeping as much as I did that first week in my whole life.

Anxious to hear updates and look forward to your new adventure!

You sound just like me. I woke up dry heaving like crazy and in severe pain thinking what the hell have I just done. I am going to die. Was given pain meds, fell back asleep, and when I woke up it wasn't too bad. I started walking up and down the halls with my IV rack and it helped tremendously. I was discharged the next day and was so happy. I slept a lot off and on the first week but every day things got a little easier each day. Wishing you continued success on your journey!
