Re: how many pounds of skin?
I am not sure, but the other night on My 600# life (my daughter watched it), one of the women profiled began at 650 pounds. She lost a few hundred and had the skin removal and on her stomach alone, they removed 60 lbs. But that was like a 300 or so pound weight loss.
Years ago I worked in medical records at a surgery center and entered ALL the surgery data into the computer along with seeing photos taken during/after surgery. I will never forget the skin (and some fat) of a woman who had an abdominoplasty. The nurse took a picture of it all laid out on one of the metal tray tables. I had not seen that before. I think the skin weighed between 8-10 pounds, after a weight loss of around 90 pounds. Looked like a bloodied ham!
Re: how many pounds of skin?
It's usually ten pounds of skin removal for every 100 pounds of weight lost. I have a friend who is in Mexico right now getting a body makeover after a bypass. She went down with the expectation of getting most of it removed and the surgeon redid her body from the waist to the knees. They don't go lower than the knees due to the dangers of deep vein thrombosis. Next year he's gonna do her top half. She wanted lipo but he told her all her fat was gone and her body consisted of hanging skin only. She sent me pics and he cut her all the way around the waist doing a lower body lift. Including her thighs.
Re: how many pounds of skin?
I have lost 195. My doctor estimates that I have around 30-35 pounds of excess skin, just in the abdominal area.
Re: how many pounds of skin?
Pam, I guesstimate that I have at least 10lbs of skin in my abdomen alone!
There is a surgeon in your neck of the woods who I have contacted about a scarless (well no lollipop scar) breast lift. His name is Dr. Horndeski
Are you thinking of having plastic surgery?
Re: how many pounds of skin?
no more surgery for me!
I'm just wondering if I really can lose another 25 lbs of fat. I've never been "not fat", so I don't know what's normal. I feel like my arms, legs, chest and back are skin and bones, but my gut feels like there's plenty there still to lose. lol
I'm at 167 as of today, and mid normal BMI is 147. I just can't imagine it.

That's awesome PamG!!! I'm sure if you keep up whatever you are doing you will reach 147lbs!!! And why not!?! To tell you the truth, I have been a bit anxious because I haven't broke 170lbs just yet... but I comfort myself knowing that I am wearing my size 10's jeans on the loose side and my next goal Is to fit comfortably into size 7 which is what I wore before I became an obese yo yo dieter.
Don't know what weight that would be for me, but I'm exited just thinking of the new wardrobe possibilities.
We are heading to Paris, France and London end of July and I would really love to be wearing my size 8/7 by them. I just want to see the 170's behind me and never again! lol!
Re: how many pounds of skin?
I think it possibly varies by the amount of weight loss to height ratio. I can tell you that my butt and legs don't look too bad but if I grab it then I can tell you there is more skin then I thought. If you get skin removal let us know how it goes. :)
Re: how many pounds of skin?
Thanks, Shirlypoo-poo! I'm in a size 14 Jean but could prob squeeze into a 12. Large shirts.
As as to what I've been doing....well, I've been testing the maintenance waters to see just how much I can't eat without gaining.....and gained!
most of March I was pretty strict keto (lost 8 lbs), stopped keto in April (Lost 1 lb.) and started back on low carb again this month, and started losing again (3 lbs so far).
Im not kidding myself that I'll be able to maintain at this level for too long, but I'd like to see what it's like to be thin for at least a year or so. If I can eventually stay around 180, I think I'd be content.

Yeah, I'm all flappy and crepey, but no surgery for me. Except maybe something for this turkey waddle under my neck! Lol

Re: how many pounds of skin?
My plastic surgeon said the weight of the excess skin is a lot less than I think it is. She removed eleven pounds of excess skin from my arms, legs and abdomen (three separate surgeries
Re: how many pounds of skin?
wow! that's so much less than I would have imagined! I guess it depends on how much subcutaneous fat is still underneath the skin, which would vary on each person a little bit.

I've lost 120lbs since my surgery and I've been lucky with my skin, my main problem areas are my abdomen and neck... can anything be done about thr loose skin on necks?

I'm with you on the "no more surgery". My drs office does this (rather creepy) 3D scan which shows muscle vs fat vs skin scan. Its kinda like that creepy dancing baby meme that went around years ago. Anyway, after the second one of those (my second will be 1/15), they help you figure that out. It's called Fit3D scan. But I kinda figure that no one except my husband, my dr and the mortician will have to see the loose skin, lol.
