stomach virus after sleeve,

My health nut husband just went through a horrible night of a stomach virus. Vomiting and fever. Since the surgery I've had a bit of a weak stomach. I've never been easy to gag but now, a smell, a taste a sound even a thought can make me gag. I have had a few pulls on mt tummy bc of this. I do not want to do what he just did! It scares me. Has anybody had a virus this close to surgery, what (wo and a half months now. Shouldn't I be far enough along that it won't make a leak? maybe I should go get a shot for nausea. You should hear me. Oh my poor baby, I'm so sorry... DON'T TOUCH THAT! COVER YOUR MOUTH. WHEN YOU COUGH! I so dread this.

you are healed enough for exercise, so you shouldn't have to worry about a leak anymore. If you are still so worried, you could always call your surgeon or a nurse on call to ease your mind. There are no stupid questions. Hope you both feel better quickly. Are you sure he has a virus? Could also be a touch of food poisoning, which would be better for you :) Still not so good for him :(

I hate to say I was hoping my husband had food poisoning. That's awful! But hed been sick with sinus and cough too. Plus when we had food poisoning (yes at the same time) before, we didn't have fever but had severe diarrhea with it. I really haven't studied it but it was just different. The dr is doing blood work we may know for sure tomorrow. I just had so much dread I hated to wait on the doc. You ever get that feeling that things have just been going too good? ;) thanks for your response, I thin k I will call my surgeon tomorrow.

Thanks for the post Dana. Yes, the fear of the flu is real. I'm a teacher and star t back to work next week with the kids coming in on the 1st. That fear is very real.
It's interesting that you have a hightened gag reflex. I too have it. I try to cough up phlem in the morning and nearly vomit. It doesn't take much to start this reflex. I've never had this before at least not this severe.

Two monthes out you should be ok without fear or a leak. The staples should have begun to dissolve by now anyway. My bariatric office has stated it will take a full six monthes to heal completely. Wow, thats amazing to me. Thats a very long time. Reckon that's due to the lake of calories we take in.
Good luck with not getting the flu. Let us know what your doc says.

I was sleeved 12/23/10 and had a horrible stomach flu @ the end of March. Everything happens very quickly. I had to try to stay hydrated, but as soon as I drank anything I immediately had diarrhea and/or vomited. It was a horrible few days. The good new: the sleeve was fine. I had NO complications with the surgery. I really hope you (or anyone else) do not get his germs, but if you do, your sleeve should be fine.

I was sleeved July 5 and this past Friday I began a four+ day adventure of puking my guts up at every turn. It culminated with me in the ATA unit last night getting rehydrated -- 3 liters of fluid pumped into me and I didn't have to pee even once I was so parched -- the good news is, despite how new my sleeve is, no damage. I'm still nauseated and still fighting to keep things down but the rehydration helped a ton. (It also put 8 of the pounds I'd lost back on me, but such is life!)

so far no virus, but I didnt get to call my surgeon today bc I had to go to the emergency room for a strained or torn uvula! the thing that hangs in the back of your throat. I was so exhausted from taking hubby tothe doc yesterday and then working last night that I fell asleep on my back and did notmove all night, well day while I was sleeping. I woke up witha very dry throat and it of course aggravated my gag reflex. I started gagging and couldnt stop, it TORE my uvula almost out of my throat! It swelled so big I couldnt get my breath. I was so scared. my sick husband had to get out of bed and take me to the emergency room. He prayed so hard and i felt the urge to swallow. it shifted it back out of my airway then. they gave me a steroid shot for the swelling and I seem to be able to get it back in place if if pops out and I start gagging again. at least its not as scary now but I have never heard of such a thing! I call my surgeon tomorrow though for the other. Ill let you know I may go ahead and get a flu shot or something.
