Why am I not losing weight for the last one month???
Hi All,
Start weight as of August 2010 : 92 Kgs (202.4 lbs) BMI : 38 (Suffered from type 2 diabetes, hyper tension, insulin resistance, PCOS)
Surgery Date : 19-Nov-2010
Weight as on the date of surgery : 88.8 Kgs (194.4 lbs)
Weight post surgery (during discharge) : 85.8 Kgs (188.76 lbs)
Weight as of today (19-March-2011) exactly 4 months post surgery : 70.5 Kgs (155.1 lbs)
Total Weight loss post surgery : 18.3 Kgs (40.26 lbs)
Well it does look significant when I give you all the overall picture... however, my weight loss has come to a stand still since the last one month... I watch on what I eat and my carb intake... and try walking as much as possible... however, seems like my scales hate me... I have been always weighing 70.5 + or - 200 grams since the last one month... am I doing anything wrong here???
I now realize that my tummy can actually withstand more quantity of food than before.. I am scared that my tummy has expanded... is that possible??? Rather, it has become tolerable to soda
As advised by my surgeon, I have been taking my proteins and multi-vitamin suppliments... though I have been a good gal in this department, I have been losing loads of hair off my scalp... Every time I wash my hair, I spend an extra half an hour to clean my shower to remove my hair from clogging the drains... any suggestions here!!!
My husband and I are planning to get pregnant... and my surgeon did suggest that I would have to wait for at-least one year post surgery... would I be able to lose the pregnancy weight easily??? what precautions should I take before and after I become pregnant???
Thank you all again in advance for any suggestions/advise that you might post... appreciate any help...
Re: Why am I not losing weight for the last one month???
I would not drink soda! You are drinking so many extra calories and I don't think the carbonation is good for your new tummy.
Are you measuring? Maybe you are still losing inches.
Try watching your food intake and measuring. Here is a site Diane has recommended. FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal You can measure and keep track. That way if your weight loss comes to a stand still you can tell if you are losing inches. You can log all of your food intake. It's a great place to keep up with what you are eating and your weight loss in pounds and inches. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat.

About the hair loss are you taking biotin its a pill that helps with hair loss and I.agree with the no soda its not good for you. Good luck and I hope this helped you
Re: Why am I not losing weight for the last one month???
My Dr said no more soda. The carbonation alone makes your stomach expand. My doc said our bodies @ normal temp is almost 100degrees. That makes soda expand.

Teri, does he mean no soda ever? My doctor didn't really discuss this with me, except to say no soda. He didn't mention a time or anything. I get the reason's not to have it, for the reason's mentioned above. I was just wondering if he meant forever.
Re: Why am I not losing weight for the last one month???
He discussed this in the seminar. It sounded like forever. I am sure that after your stomach is healed a soda every now and then can't hurt much but they really aren't good for you, not even the diet ones. I have given them up already for the most part trying to lose weight. I like one occasionally for the fizz but now that I know what that does I don't think I'll have anymore or at least try not to.;)
Re: Why am I not losing weight for the last one month???
My doctor said for the first year no soda (not sure how much you can have after that) because I stopped sodas two years ago so I didn't really listen.
Re: Why am I not losing weight for the last one month???
Mine said that after you have healed, it isn't a good idea but said it would be more because it makes people uncomfortable and it is a "waste". Although pre-op I drink diet coke all the time, I simply have replaced it with other drinks. I stick to water and other drinks, even ones that have calories, since my overall calorie intake can easily accomodate them now. Admittedly I do miss fizzy drinks a little, but it is a small price to pay in my opinion.
Your stomach is very flexible and can easily expand overtime if it is continually stretched, just like our skin expands when we put on weight. That is why the sleeve is only a tool and not a solution of its own.
Re: Why am I not losing weight for the last one month???
Thankyou all for the advise... I was not regular for the last few days and hence the delay... The soda was just the two times, while was going thro' some emotional roller coaster... (psstt.. BTW I was an emotional binger and at times drift away from my goals)... I was surprised that my tummy was accomodating soda and I didnt feel a thing, as I was told by my DR that I would have some excruciating pain while my tummy expands courtesy binging...
Anyways... the good news is that atlast on my scale I have managed to hit a 69 Kilos.. :D
I surely would try the Biotin bit... as I feel that I would have to resort to wigs and extensions for the bald patches the hairfall has been giving me... I have an appointment with my DR this week... lets see what he has to say...
Thanx again for all the care and lovely advise.... keep smiling... :);):p:)
Re: Why am I not losing weight for the last one month???
My Dr told me that I need to eat 60-90 grams of protein per day after my surgery. I was trying to get that in and found it impossible. They then told me that it is virtually impossible to do it with food completely. Protein shakes are a permenant necessity. I stopped losing weight for over a month when I was not getting my protein in. They told me that the side effects of not getting enough protein is "You will lose your hair and stop losing weight."
As soon as I started increasing my protein to 60-80 grams, I started losing weight again. Biotin helps, but the protein is essential.
Good luck
