2 Weeks out and no weight loss! ???!!
hi all.
had my surgery Feb 15th and weight was at 195 lbs. After returning home and losing water weight in the first week, i ended up at 195lbs. I have been sticking to my post op diet religiously and am walking 5 times a week for an hour, and the scale has barely moved!! Everyone says, "oh the weight will just fall off of you at first"! REALLY???!! Because it's not happening to me! My caloric intake is 600 cals/day and the scale is not moving! Has this happened to anyone else? I'm starting to wonder if i made the right decision....(my thyroid levels are okay too).

Gloriana...I believe that your body might be in starvation mode. It's use to having more calorie intake. Just keep pushing the liquids and try to increase your calorie count, and I know you will see your weight go down. Don't get discouraged! It will get better. I'm not an expert, but from past experiences of yo-yo dieting, :):):)I've had the same thing happen to me. LOL:):):)
Re: 2 Weeks out and no weight loss! ???!!
I have hit several plateaus.. and its frustrating. The weight will drop. it might be rearranging itself from fat to muscle. at least thats what they told me when I complained at the Dr.'s office. Be patient. your body is processing a major change, but it will happen. I'll look forward to hearing good news soon.
be well
Michael.

It's a matter of physics. The weight will come off. Try to get between 800-1000 calories a day, and 60-80 grams of protein. You need to keep your metabolism running, and it may have slowed down on only 600 calories. Just eat 150-200 calories 5 or 6 times a day! Have faith.

Glorania,
I had my surgery the same day you did. I haven't see much change since I returned from the hospital either. I think all of the responses to you that I have read so far have some excellent points. My doctor told me there was no set amount or speed I should be losing, he told me he would like to see a 6 pound loss in 6 weeks, and that was it. He said it takes the body some time to adjust to everything and that the more exercise the more muscle. He did advise me not to go too low on my calories, at least 800-900 would be good. I eat about 6 times a day (never more than 4 oz) and get about 70 -90 grams of protein. He also advised to drink the 64+ oz of water each day to help with the weight loss. I have also been told that the less weight you have to lose, the slower it comes off. I have noticed that although I have not seen the scale move much, my clothes are getting looser. Use that as a scale too. If you have more concerns or dietary questions, I'm sure your doctor can reassure you. Good luck!

I had my Sleeve in Oct, I had the same first two weeks. Now I am 4 months out and I have lost 65 lbs! Hang in there.

Listen to Bonnie!!
Your body is thinking, "OMG, there's a drought or a famine or something terrible has happened to the food supply..........we MUST take the air she breathes and convert it to fat, or we shall surely perish!!!"
Its doing everything in its power to MAINTAIN your higher weight, so you don't starve before the food supply can increase. I believe God designed us this way in order TO survive during lean times. (What He didn't intend for us to do was stick a McDonald's, a Krispy Kreme and a KFC on every corner and pork up to obscene BMIs!!!!)
I had a Dr. tell me one time that that is the reason there are so many diabetic people in the world today -- is because we were the ones who survived the famines and pestilence and passed our genes on to the next generation....
....something to think about.
But never fear, your scales will move again....and it'll probably be huge, too! Like 5 lbs at a time. Again, imagine your body talking to itself "Hey!! We can't maintain all this glorious voluptuousness on the mere pittance she's giving us each day, we're gonna have to drop a few pounds and rethink our strategy."
Its a daily battle, trying to outsmart a body that prefers to be fat. But you have a top secret weapon now -- WLS!!!!
Re: 2 Weeks out and no weight loss! ???!!
As others have said, you might need to eat more calories. Even the smallest framed of us need 800-1000 calories a day or our bodies do think there is a famine and try to hold onto everything they got (and the sad thing, in starvation mode, it goes for the muscle first, and serious starvation can cause heart problems, because the heart is a muscle).
Top it up with 5 hours of walking a week, your body is thinking "not only is there no food to eat, but I am having to wander around to find any food so there is no way I am going to burn fat".
My suggestion would be up your calorie intake and be patient. Hang in there!

Re: 2 Weeks out and no weight loss! ???!!
Remember our girlie hormones can cause us to not loose weight during certain times during our cycles. Mine does each month :(
