Hi guys, long time no see...
Still alive and kicking.
Things have changed a lot here.
We recently moved out of our RV and into a house!
A gorgeous little farmhouse, in the middle of nowhere, in the upper northeast part of the Netherlands.
So, there is a a lot of work to be done here.
Some of you may not realise how small my country is.
From north to south is about 400 kilometers, which is about 250 miles and from the coast to the German border is about 170 miles.
We live in this small country with 17 million people.
And we have Covid-19 here.
Not much room to escape...
Fortunately our house sits in the middle of country farmland, not many neighbours nearby.
That could be a blessing or a curse, I have no way to tell.
We are well prepared, we have stocked up on groceries and we can last about 2 months, without going to a store.
We are still doing well, and we have every intention to keep it that way, but you never can tell, right?
But please, my friends, be very, very careful!
Take this extremely serious.
Our gouvernment is rather slow with everything and I am afraid that whatever they do is too little, too late.
IC units in some hospitals almost need to do triage, a terrible thing...
They are running out of supplies and hospital beds.
Healthcare workers are getting sick themselves, so the system is slowing down.
Please, stay safe and well!
Do whatever you deem necessary to protect your families.
Even if it seems a bit silly right now.
But better safe than sorry, right?
And for the good news: I gained about 2 pounds, whoop, whoop!
That's what living in a house does for me, I guess...
Love y'all!

Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
Thanks Sharon!
How are you doing?
Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
Good. They have told people over 60 to pretty much stay home if possible, but that doesn't include my woods so I can hike! We did cancel a trip to see kids in Dallas next week. Skipping my WW meeting and hospital support group. (Who wants to be in a hospital??). Some say it's overreacting, but I think prevention is the best way. I've got good books!
Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
Good for you!
Yes, I agree, a hospital is the place to get sick.
Lots of sick people there...
Better "overreact" than not react at all.
You are very smart!
Same here, lots of books, long walks in the fields (no travelling for us now, a lot of borders are closed anyway, so nowhere to go), staying home and enjoying our new house.
I've become a real happy homemaker!
My new passion: decorating for Easter... :-)
Stay safe!
Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
Dutchie, so glad to see you back and congratulations on your new home.
Yes, Covid-19 is serious. I see it as getting a tornado watch saying it's your street, since I'm in the high risk group. But I'm such an introvert social distancing is not a big deal. Harder for my social husband. We are NOT being crazy, just reason & care in habits.
I will say I wish our hot water didn't take so long -- it's in the garage, and upstairs takes forever, as does downstairs bathroom. I like hot water to wash my hands. Glad I have something so small to complain about.
Hugs!
Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
We just have to use common sense, but the definition of that seems to differ... :-)
I am glad you are fine and taking precautions.
Stay safe hon!
Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
Hey Dutchie!!!
Congratulations on your new home!
It's getting crazy around here. The grocery store shelves are empty of water, toilet paper and paper towels. It's crazy!!!
Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
Hi Kenson!
Thank you, we are over the moon with our new house, it is so cute!
In regard to the shops: same here, empty shelves, no toilet paper, hand sanitizers, no milk, meat or canned food.
I am glad I stocked up several weeks ago, when there were ample supplies.
Things are crazy...
Stay safe!
Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
I don't understand why people are hoarding bottled water. We never buy bottled water, we fill up water bottles or glasses with our faucet. Will some sick people force them to turn off our plumbing?
Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
Hi Dutchie. I’m interested in you RV life....how long did you live in your motor home and where did you travel. We are off to Europe in May (all being well with corona virus) for a couple of months in our RV and can’t wait. More room in the bed since I’ve lost weight lol, we love snuggling down in the Campervan.
Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
Hi Sally!
Thanks for dropping by.
We've lived full time in our RV for over 5 years, and we loved it!
But this new house opportunity was too good to pass by.
We have traveled all through Europe and there is still lot to see and places to visit, where we have not been yet.
Last autumn we've been near the Russian border, at the Barents Sea, that was even more north than Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.
And we've also been in Morocco, North Africa a couple of times.
Our rig, although very small to US standards, is a class A.
What kind of Van do you have?
I sure hope, your plans will become reality very soon!
There is no way of telling how this virus-thing is going to work out.
A lot of countries are in lock down now, about time!
We hope for the best!
Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
Hi, We have a VW T5 with a pop top so much smaller than yours. Last year we spend 6 weeks driving the NC500 in Scotland and had no problems at all, in fact we didn’t want to come home ! If you don’t mind me asking what made you finish your RV adventure, it sounds like you loved the life ? And do you still have your RV in case you get itchy feet ! Lol
Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
O, absolutely do we still have the RV!
It is sitting in our driveway, so I can look at it. :-)
We are not young anymore and getting a house is very difficult here.
This house was just a lucky find, but we were not looking yet for a house.
And then we had a choice: skip this house (although this is our dreamhouse) and hope to find something a couple of years later, or just take what we can get right now.
We choose the latter.
But we still love the RV life and we will be travelling as soon as we possibly can, which will probably be at the end of the summer.
O and b.t.w. we have also visited Scotland, we were there for 8 weeks, during the Highland Games.
We had a fantastic time there!
I love Scotland.
Re: Hi guys, long time no see...
Hey Dutchie!
You have been missed.
Congrats on the new house. How very exciting :-)
This whole virus thing is very scary. One of the few times I am glad that New Zealand is so far away from the rest of the world. We are certainly not immune though and have 8 cases confirmed here. There has been some panic buying but not too bad. We are all taking it one day at a time. Sports games are being cancelled or played without supporters, theatre/shows are also being cancelled. Anyone coming to NZ is expected to self isolate for 14 days on arrival....and we are all singing Happy Birthday to ourselves (twice) when we wash our hands so that we get the required 20 seconds :-)
I hope you are all ok and taking the necessary precautions.
