I've been asked to do Four weeks of a liquid diet. It's the hardest thing I've ever tried to do. I'm so ready to get past this stage and have my surgery. (june 2nd)

Thank you so much for sharing the "Protica" website. I am very interested in many of their products. The Protein Vials look tasty!

You are welcome. I like the blue raspberry swirl the best. There are other products that are similar by different company's. Walmart sells a clear protein shot. I haven't tried them, although I know their are other members who have.
Good Luck, you will do great. Just keep a positive attitude.

At least that's what Dr. Long told me yesterday during my pre operative appt. I have to drink 7 protein shakes per day or else my body will think I am starving and will hold onto fat and dump muscle.
I am still confused about the pre-op diet. It calls for clear liquids only but you are allowed protein shakes? Mine is only 3-days pre-op, so I would not complain about whatever it is I'm supposed to eat...But I want to do it right! Thanks, Terry

If your pre-op calls for clear liquids, protein shakes do not apply, those are full liquids. There are some products that people are calling bullet's or shots. They are clear liquids! I hope this helps. You can get them from Walmart or that site Protica site I listed above. I have seen people posting about several different brands.

Thanks so much. I saw those "bullets" at Walmart; am going to test drive a few!

Yes you need protein to keep from losing muscle and hair. If you take away all carbohydrates from your diet, AND protein, the body thinks your are in trouble and will save your fat because it must be an emergency. If you give your body 100g of protein per day (whey protein isloate is the best quality), then it will burn up the fat and not save it.
Whew, I hope I helped and not made it even more confusing...

I forgot, I casually mentioned that I would probably drink only 4 protein shakes a day--I could do 500 calorie days and my MD said NO! Drink the 7 shakes I recommended because he wants my body to have plenty of protein for the day. I am allowed 1200 calories a day with less than 20g of carbohydrates per day....Just make sure your protein shakes have less than 4g of carbs per shake....
Re: Clear Liquids -Alumni post suggestions here - Newbies get info here
Thank you so much, Susu...I still say they should not call it a CLEAR liquid diet, if it includes protein shakes! Terry
Re: Clear Liquids -Alumni post suggestions here - Newbies get info here
If you look up Clear Liquid, it's just that "Clear Liquid". That is why there are those other options, the bullets, shots or the clear isopure drinks.
Re: Clear Liquids -Alumni post suggestions here - Newbies get info here
Aha...So it's NOT the shakes that we can have but the (clear) liquid protein drinks...Thanks for the "clarification"! Terry

Mrs. Jumbo, I am sorry, I didn't see this post of yours. Tell us how your doing now. Have you talked to your Doctor about how much you can take in? I think the clear fluids empty through our stomach's so fast, it may not have been too bad. Let us know.
Re: Clear Liquids -Alumni post suggestions here - Newbies get info here
I'm still on the clear liquids. I have been draining cans of chicken noodle soup & having just the juice, or splitting it into 2 cups, add low sodium chicken broth & water, ice pops, water, LOTS of apple juice (it's free at the hotel I'm staying in LOL) I also got the Teriaki place across the road to give me just the juice from Egg Flower soup. I tried drinking the IsoPure Protein drinks & I couldn't stomach them, they made me gag too much. Also I found 4C (they make breading for chicken & stuff) came out with a drink mix that has Splenda in it, is 0 carbs & 0 calories. I haven't tried it yet though. Plus I've been eating some sugar free jello which I try to stay away from because I try to stay away from aspartame. I can't wait until I'm finally on the soft food diet!
