Why post op diet and weight lose before VGS?
I am going for my pre-op visit this week with my surgeon, my surgury will be within the next 3 weeks. I am finsihed with all the testing, appointments and my insurance has approved. I am just curious on why we need to go on a pre-op diet? I know you have to cleanse your system and get prepared for the surgery a few days prior, but two weeks? Can someone explain alittle about that? I am fine with it because I have been going through a 6 month long program so my insurance would approve, I can't wait to get sleeved!
Also do I need to purchase a special blender or shaker? I was looking in Walmart yesterday and didn't know what I needed for the protein shakes. I would love any suggestions you guys have since all of ya'll have been in the same boat as me.
Thanks! :D
Re: Why post op diet and weight lose before VGS?
Most not all surgeons require a pre-op diet due to people having "fatty livers". The surgeons want to decrease as much fat around your organs to have the surgery go smoothly. A friend of mine had a gastric sleeve and duodonal switch in Brazil 7 years ago and didn't diet at all. She was just NPO prior to her surgery. I just did a modified pre-op diet as decreasing carbs, sugars, and no caffeine just to help me when I'm post-op. My sister and I were only required a three day clear liquid diet prior to surgery then NPO the night prior to surgery. For your other question about equipment, I have a great document, the Sleeve Bible that has a lot of information (26 pages). PM me with your email addy and I'll be happy to send it to you.

Thanks Angel, honestly I was hoping I wouldn't have to for two weeks. I can deal with 3 days no problem, well I could deal with anything if I had to so I can have the surgery. I am not nervous at all just ready to get this next part of my life started!

Yes, the reasoning is indeed to shrink the liver, making both the surgery safer and the recovery easier. I watched a video of a surgery that Dr Alvarez performed with a fatty liver and after watching it, I could easily see how it could complicate things. http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...images/doh.gif
At first, I wasn't thrilled with doing a pre-op diet, but remember it's most likely the hardest part and you WILL get through it! For me, it gave me a chance to get mentally ready for the changes and get a kick-start on the weight loss, as well! :)

Hey Jenny, I have six video clips in my Mexico Trip Tips document. I can send that too if you want to see the surgery and have common questions answered.
