Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
After exceeding my goal weight and maintaining for a while, I had a plastics consult. Apparently I get to live with excess arm and thigh skin - the doc advised for what little I have, the scaring and risk are too high of a price to pay. He did, however, say I'm an excellent candidate for breast augmentation. (I went from a 38DD to a 32B/C.)
I'm a pretty athletic person and have fallen in love with my small breasts. I like the appearance, feel, and the way clothes fit with small-ish boobs. What I do not like is the deflated appearance, sagging, and ugly stretch marks.
I'd love to hear some thoughts from folks who've had a Lift Only, including satisfaction and results. Do you wish you'd had augmentation as well? I'm on the fence about getting a small "enhancement" as I understand the scaring is less with augmentation, and I'm not convinced larger is better in my case. Thoughts?
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
I have large breast right now and i already had a breast reduction in 2004. Im hoping to get down to the size they told you , you would be at.
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
Huh...sorry, but I don't follow that comment and how it's tied to my question. Can you clarify?
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
I'm really interested in hearing what others have to say. I've ALWAYS wanted a lift. Now even more so!!!
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
Gosh I wish I had some insight, but I am soooo glad you posted this because I was wondering about this too. I am leaning towards a future lift if necessary; I am so far down from a 50 H to a 38 F and I am really hoping to get smaller because I have also become more athletic and don't necessarily want to increase the size, just pull the girls up.
I hope there are some others on this forum who can provide us some insight, and hope you don't mind me joining in on your thread!
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
12 weeks ago I had a breast lift and arm lift. I did not want augmentation so I didn't talk to the doctor about it. I went from a 50DD to a 36C/D depending on the bra. I'm very satisfied with the lift so far and glad to not have my breasts in the way or hanging at my waist. Having been large breasted for so long I was glad to be a normal size. I really enjoy going into most stores to buy a bra instead of a speciality shop or ordering online. The variety of colors is endless in my new size.
As for exercise, other than walking, it stopped. The first week I couldn't do much because of the bandages on my arms, but once the bandages came off I just needed compression on my arms for 6 more weeks. Instead of ACE wraps I used running sleeves. They were much more comfortable but not being able to exercise was terrible. After a week I could wear a sports bra as long as it had no underwire and closed in the front. I finally had a good work-out routine going and my surgeon said no lifting over 5 pounds. Arghh, I never thought I'd miss exercising.
Hope that helps

Stop all presses!
I've had my eyes on this surgeon in Texas for a few years. Someone I know had a breast reduction/lift done by dr. Horndeski - look him up http://horndeski.com/the-horndeskimethod/ she even dares to go braless now with her DD's... I cannot imagine myself ever daring to go braless for more than it takes me to shower and get dressed lol! I even sleep with a "sleeping bralette."
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
You're worth it and earned it
Congratulation!
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
I had a breast lift without augmentation done in 2009 after LAP band success. It is a personal decision, but my thoughts were the same as yours, I like having smaller breasts and just didn't want to "call attention" to my chest.
With a lift, yes, I can go braless, but I choose not to. My breasts are not full at the top (as opposed to the roundness of implants).
I am undergoing lap band to sleeve revision in September. Hopefully there will be more weight loss, so if I decide to revise my breasts again later, I will again choose a lift vs an augmentation.
My hubby would have preferred the implants at the time, but several years later and several episodes of "Botched" (bad implants) have won him over to the natural side.
Totally a personal choice. Do what you feel is right for you.
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
I had to have reconstruction on the right breast and my first one was done in 2004 - we had agreed to do implants on both so I was quite annoyed when I woke up and he had done an implant on the right side with the mastectomy and only a lift on the left side which was natural. The lifted one looked like crap - well they both did - I scar badly so .... after 12 surgeries total since then I have implants of course in both and they're ok with clothes on but still horrible without clothing. But anyway - I would never just do a lift but that's just me - I am sure any good doctor could advise based on your individual shape and body
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
I got an augmentation 5 years ago. I went from a small droopy B to a full, round DD. I looked into a lift but my surgeon, who is a wonderful artist and body sculptor, advised me to get high profile implants that would also lift me up and that worked for me. I got silicone, high-profile Natrelle brand "gummy bear" implants at 700 cc. Maybe a very small high-profile would do the same for you without the scarring. The only scars I have are about a 2 inch line under my breast which is covered by my breast itself. I go braless most days, unless my nipples are an issue LOL!!!
My advice is to go to a consultation when you are ready. The right plastic surgeon will listen to you and look at you and tell you what he can do with what you have to work with. My guy's name is Dr. Kevin Maguire and he's is in Maine now, I think at University Hospital.
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
I'm hoping for a natural breast reduction with my weight loss. Oh how I would love to be a "B" cup again.
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
I'm happy for you! :D
Actually I think small boobs help me to feel more comfortable wearing clothes, and I don't like when people stare at my boobs.
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
I know this is old and my situation is a bit different in that I had a mastectomy but I'd go with the augmentation any day over a lift. I keloid so my scars are worse than a normal person would have - my first recon I had in 2005 the doctor said he was doing an augmentation with implants but when I woke up he had only done an implant on the one side where it had been removed and a lift on the other.... it looked horrible. The lift had an incision all the way under, the nipple removed and put back on and a scar up and down from the bottom incision to the nipple. I hated it. I've now had 12 surgeries due to horrible complications that I truly feel are due to the first 1 I had in 2005.
Re: Breast Lift vs. Augmentation
I'm glad to see recent comments on this topic. I got a consult and price for a lift with augmentation. Ouch! Bith in scaring as well as price.
My biggest issue is that my breasts have obviously lost a bit of the fat so I've got the droopy, loose look. You'd never even guess I'm wearing a 34D. But let's be frank, a lift alone won't fill it in where the nipped go concave when I'm laying down because the fat underneath is gone.
I was wondering about results of just augmentation without a lift. It would be much more affordable and solve my biggest concern.
Any more shared experiences would be great or maybe this needs to become its own thread.
