Personal tragedy-19 days out-surgeon visit
My sister-in-law was found deceased on Sunday. They think she died Thanksgiving evening. Just 53 years old, but she suffered....was tormented.....by anorexia and bipolar disorder. No definite cause of death until medical examiner finishes, but they think either a massive coronary due to the anorexia or- she had MRI 3 wks. ago because of numbness and tingling throughout her body and although she died before follow-up visit for diagnosis, the MRI showed "shadows" in the brain. This could have been caused by the anorexia which depletes the body of protein and can cause brain lesions, or it could have been tumors-we just don't know.
Her mom, my mother-in-law, died just 5 months ago due to lung cancer. So my dear, 90 yr. old father-in-law has lost a wife and a daughter within 5 months. My husband is shattered-again, he has lost a mother and sister within 5 months.
So in my personal life, that is what has been happening since Sunday.
I had my follow-up with my surgeon yesterday. He is pleased, I am healing nicely, he said I can start exercising with no limitations except to LISTEN TO MY BODY and of course, don't push it to or past the point of pain. Also I can start eating solids, being careful to chew chew chew and introducing foods slowly. I weighed 191 lbs, with my initial weight in August being 233- Nov. 1st first day of preop diet 219, 207 on surgery date of Nov. 15th. So since August, 42 lbs. Since preop, 28 lbs, and since surgery, 16 lbs. I am very happy with those numbers.
So today I am started counting the calories and protein. I have packed my lunch for work and written down my meal plans for today. I haven't planned supper, but with breakfast, lunch and snack I am at 550 calories and 32 grams of protein so I think after adding supper I should be between 40-50 grams of protein and 800 calories.
Thanks for the ongoing support and knowledge. Thank you for listening, and....peace.

(((hugs))) Sunny...this is so sad. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. On a happy note, I'm so glad you got such a good report from your check up! Sounds like you're doing great with your meal planning. How's your energy level now? Do you get tired at work? Be careful not to overdo your exercise. Take care and know we care! Hope to hear from you soon.

Re: Personal tragedy-19 days out-surgeon visit
(((Hugs))) back to you, Sherri. Thanks for your kind words and support. I am being VERY careful with my exercise, no way am I going to overdo it and risk a setback. As far as being tired at work, my surgeon said it takes the body a MONTH to shake off the effects of the aenesthesia and that what causes the insomnia. Of course the past 3 days since Debbie died has meant sleepless nights as well. But overall, I am really feeling great physically. I still have to figure out when to stop eating- I bite chew chew chew, wait between bites....repeat repeat repeat. There is no warning before you take one bite too many, just a big OWEEEE! lol So I told hubby last night when I prepare my plate, I'm just going to be mindful and aware, leaving a few bites on my teeny plate to avoid that last PAINFUL bite. :-)
I saw your blog about how great you're doing with your walking at Wally World and everything! YAAYYYYY!!! Sorry your feet hurt, but you know as the weight comes off and your body gets healthier and more fit with exercise, that pain will start to subside. I am sooo happy for you.
Well, I better scoot out the door. I have to warm up the car and leave in 10 minutes to be to work for 7. Have a great day, and keep in touch!
