Re: Sydney Surgeons ? Ideas?
Hi Doreen
I had Dr James Chau. $18,500. I paid with my Superannuation as the way I was going I wouldn't live to the age of 65 to see any of it anyway. After the surgery i did receive a check for $2000 for hospital over charge??? still don't know why but am obviously happy with that.
I know people who have had the same surgery with Dr James Chau. He was great! I have had no probs at all and have recommended him to numerous people. He will book you in fast and has an excellent dietitian. If you are using your insurance you can expect to pay about $5,000 out of your pocket (that seems to be the norm). However it depends on your insurer. If you don't have the $5000 I would suggest using your superannuation for that amount as you are able to use it under compassionate grounds due to a life threatening illness. Dr Chau is based in Miranda NSW not far from Sydney. Good luck!
Re: Sydney Surgeons ? Ideas?
Hopefully if everything works out, I will be doing my surgery with Dr. David Martin in Concord/Strathfield. Will be paying around 7000 for the sleeve. I have Bupa.

Hi Doreen,
Dr John Jorgensen at St George Private Hospital was my surgeon early this year. I recommend him highly as he has over 20 years experience in Bariatric Surgery and St George Private is a Bariatric Centre of Excellence with a high volume of experience. The cost was around $6500 including anesthetist and various appointments. I had the top hospital cover with HCF who were perfect and a joy to deal with unlike previous experiences with Medibank.
The surgery was trouble free and I was home in 2 days and my GP said the weight loss has been life saving.
