Hi there. I’m going for sleeve gastrectomy in July at the ASV Life Hospital in Antalya. I’m very nervous and know nothing about having surgery in Turkey.
What sort of after care should I expect ?
What things should I check about the hospital , the surgeons and the company arranging my surgery and trip ?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Kind regards
Shane
Hi Shane..
I hope you are well. Last year more than 1 million foreigners arrived Turkey for treatment from abroad. That's very understandable that you are nervous. But you can be sure about that, our surgeons are well-experienced and healthcare system is much better than 10 years ago.
The main problem is getting operation. It is risky and important decision everywhere whether you do it in your home country or abroad. You must focus on a few things while you are getting operation abroad. Firstly, you must stay in Turkey as much as you can. Most of the complications are occurring exactly after the operation. You can book extra days after the operation to stay, to be under control. Everybody pay attention to you while you are here. Additionally, you can get all necessary medical help in a few minutes in Turkey.
Secondly, the choice of your surgeon, your hospital, your city, or country is important. You need to make more detailed research. This is important as buying your new car.. You look all details, where you will stay, experience of your surgeon, quality assessment of the hospital, are nurses speak English? Are nurses well-experienced about your surgery?
For the medical tourism facilitator companies; you can check their legal issues, their experience and reviews of the same surgery.
You need to ask some extra questions abut aftercare? What if something happens when you are at home? Revision Surgeries?
I hope I answered all. if you need anything .. I am here..
Best wishes
Salah
Hi Dr Salah,
I'm booked to have my sleeve done in Istanbul at Turkiye Hastanesi hospital from Dr Erol Vural.
I stumbled across an article about a 25 year old guy from England who died last December after having a sleeve in Turkey and now I'm nervous as hell
Do you know Dr Vural and is internal bleeding common after having surgery? I'm desperate to have this operation but I'm only 37 and really don't want to die as a result of it.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi Scotsman. Have you had a look at NewLeaf yet ?
No they’re an English company but the surgery is done in Prague. They are much better than the Turkish ones I’ve checked out.
In Turkey there is no aftercare. They just send you home and let you deal with it. With NewLeaf you get the aftercare back home. The surgeons are the best in Europe. Cost wise it works out to €4500 euros which is £3900 in English so it’s a little dearer but the service is by far better.
Why don’t you book a no obligations phone consultation. Speak to Amanda and see what you think. It’s gotta be worth a try. I’d definitely speak to her before you make you book Turkey. If your not convinced then just carry on with your Turkey booking. Nothing to loose.
Same here. I was booked for Turkey and booked flights but when I read that story I cancelled it. I’m changing the flights to Prague and going with New Leaf.
Luckily I hadn’t paid a deposit on the surgery but the flights I can just get changed over so all good.
Drop Amanda a message at new leaf and see what she says. You will change your mind I’m sure.
Your health is much more important than saving A couple of quid and going t ok Turkey.
Hi
There are hundreds of clinics in Turkey, they have office, doctor or nurse in UK. There are a lot of companies who are originated in UK and registered to UK authorities.
So this is not correct information.
All this services are done by most of the hospitals in Turkey.
Have a nice day
Sorry if you disagree but I’ve done my homework on this. What aftercare do you offer ?
Hi Shane,
I was speaking to Amanda on WhatsApp today and she's due to call me tomorrow morning. The more research I done on Turkey the more off putting it became. I found out today that the surgeon who was due to do my sleeve was under investigation a few years ago after one of his patients died. That was the final straw tbh.
I've done a bit of research on New Leaf and they seem very good.
When are you going to Prague?
I’m waiting on my date now. Due to this coronavirus all flights have been stopped and if we do get in, then there’s quarantine.
Hopefully it won’t be long now. Speak to Amanda. She knows her stuff. I reckon mine will be August September time.
You never know, we might be in there together lol
I meant to say, if you go on Facebook and look for NewLeaf weight loss support. They have a forum on there. Everyone on there either has had or is going to have this surgery with Newleaf. It’s worth a look. Anything you want to know, someone in there will be able to help you with and in general it’s a right good read. Lots of peoples stories on there.
