Re: New threads and stories
Hi Janice
We are so lucky here in New Zealand that life is fairly "normal" for us. Apart from not being able to travel internationally we are going about our daily business relatively unimpeded.
I feel for those of you in other parts of the world where it is anything but normal.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. With regard to the food - are you able to eat soft foods instead of just the protein shakes? Eggs, cottage cheese, fish, oatmeal etc? What about smoothies. I generally have a green smoothie for breakfast every day and really enjoy them. The spinach adds to my fibre intake and the small amount of fruit makes it interesting - and varied depending on what I put in.
At the moment though I'm back having protein shakes for breakfast and a protein bar for lunch as I need to shift a bit of Christmas excess weight so have gone back to the real basics. I know what you mean about wanting something to chew! The protein bars I have are a local product and are really good but are sweet like the protein drinks so by the time dinner comes I'm really looking forward to something savoury. Hopefully I will only have to do this for a little while until I shift those stubborn few kilos. Dinner is my usual protein and a few good veg and is most welcome :-)
I am trying to come back on the forum more often. I usually just have a bit of a look while at work and as I have been on leave for a few weeks I haven't been participating as much as I could. Also the rubbish that has been dredged up by trolls has put me off a bit.
Hopefully if we all participate a bit more we can take back our forum :-)
Re: New threads and stories
Hi Janice and KiWi,
I, too, am combatting a few stubborn pounds. I'm back at the gym, in a mask of course, but its something that I need to do. Covid has definitely changed my world. My school has opened and closed many times since September. Currently, we are shut down until Feb. 16th if not longer. In November I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. To say that it has rocked my world is an understatement. I have had two surgeries and begin my treatments in two weeks. My physicians are hopeful that with treatment that I will be ok--let us all pray. This week I have gotten back to tracking my meals with the WW app so that I can stay on track. Let's hope that the forum livens back up. I think we all need it.
Re: New threads and stories
Kenson - I pray that your cancer treatment will be successful! You are an encouragement to us new folks on this weight loss surgery journey!
Re: New threads and stories
JanPit - I, too, struggled with Diverticulitis. Haven't had a flare up since las summer. At one point, I have having them every few months. So I know how you feel. Next week I'll be 8 weeks post-op, so still pretty new. My biggest struggle is getting all the water in. I had reflux every now and then BEFORE surgery but it got bad afterwards. My NP said I should stop eating/drinking 2-3 hours before I go to bed, which shortens my time for getting in all the fluids. He told me not to stress it so I won't. I'm down 50 lbs so far so not doing so badly. My primary physician said the diverticulitis should get better since I won't be eating so much. So maybe rely more on the protein shakes.
Kenson - You will be in my prayers. Every time I come on this site, I see your smiling face and/or read your encouraging words. It's good you maintain a gym presence. I believe being fit will help you in your upcoming journey. Stay strong!

Re: New threads and stories
HI everyone, happy new year to you all. I too have to shed some extra kg that i have accumulated since the first lock down. I have managed to still have Pt during the lock down and started running. I also walk allot. However when you are home all day and can't go out or meet people it starts getting to you. To top that i suffer from SADS and that doesn't help either. I have managed to get back in control the last few days and am going back to basics with protein first and if i have room carbs. I hope this year improves and we can all go back to 'normal'. The start to this year has been awful, first my daughter's wedding had to be postponed until August and yesterday my father had a stroke and as I don't live in SA, I cannot go and help my poor mother, that leads to me being stressed and then wanting to eat junk food .Lets hope things get better as the year goes on. :)
Re: New threads and stories

Hi Elllie and Kenson
Sending you both lots of love.
These days are stressful enough without having to contend with what you are going through.
I am so thankful that life is fairly normal for us here in NZ.
