Hi Im supposed to be having the sleeve in June. No exact date as of yet. Im wondering If I should start trying the protein liquid diet now. Im a type 2 diabetic and I have a fatty enlarged liver. If this will help shrink my liver and make surgery easier I wanna do it. Any suggestions? And how much protein are you supposed to be getting on this liquid diet? Thanks

I'm an insulin dependent diabetic with enlarged fatty liver pre-op.
My surgeon had me on an 1100 calorie, mostly protein shake diet, 4 weeks pre-op. I ate veggies(plain) and or Dole fruit cups (no sugar) for lunch, and Smart Ones (under 200 calories) for dinner. I lost 14 lbs and my Dr and Nutritionist were happy. I was consuming 75-80 gms of protein per day.
Have you seen a Nutritionist? Their input is invaluable.

I have an appointment for my second nutrition class on 3-22-16. I was just wondering if maybe I should start the protein now. Im also insulin dependant. 5 shots a day along with oral meds. They havent told me to do the liquid diet but I was looking at some of the posts and figured it couldnt hurt. Thanks for the info and if you dont mind my asking, where did you purchase your protein shakes from?

My PCP (she monitors the diabetes, high BP) worked with my surgeon. The reason for the lunch and dinner was to be sure my glucose wouldn't drop too low. I fell out a couple of times.
So...before starting the liquid diet, please check with your Drs!
I use EAS carb control protein shakes(Walmart), Isopure(40 GMs protein!) (GNC).

Thanks WANAGL for the info. Gonna talk with the nutritionist on tuesday and with my PCP before starting. Dont wanna be passing out!! Ive done that a couple of times and it is definitely no fun. Im just worried about the enlarged fatty liver. I want to be in the best shape possible before surgery. Currently my A1C is at a 9.5 so Im also looking to get that down. My surgeon would like it to be 8 or below before surgery.

Way to go! Suck those Drs and NUTs dry, and get every bit of info and help you can get from them!
Please keep in mind we are all different...
My good news is that my glucose numbers have come down since surgery! I'll be having blood work at the end of March to see where my A1C is.

I like the sound of cream of mushroom soup with roasted garlic! mmm also, I never even thought to add vanilla extract to my shakes... such a simple idea, but yumm !! Thanks ladies.. keep the ideas coming

I am on full liquids now. I am enjoying the Carrot Ginger soup and Butternut Squash soup from Imagine Organic Soups. You can find them in the Health food section of most grocery stores.

Also: Isopure Low Carb Whey protein isolate powder: Dutch chocolate twice per day during liquids phase REALLY helped me
