Day 3 (at home) pain, swelling and fever
I called the doc office this morning when I awoke to my stomach, swollen, more pain than usual and fever. Doc office said to take Tylenol for fever but after hanging up I remembered nurse saying Loratab (sp?) had Tylenol in it. Took pain med and fever broke and has not come back but stomach is still swollen. Have others had the swelling? My husband is getting nervous and making me nervous that something might be wrong. Thanks for any thoughts.

Go to the hospital, better to be safe.

I think some swelling is normal but how swollen are you? Some swelling will be due to the all the IV liquids. Some is due to surgery in general. The fever actually concerns me more than the swelling. And if you are truly worried? Go see your PCP.

If swollen started 3 days after surgery go to ER. Do not wait for someone to reply here.
I had access to ER nurse 24/7

I was swollen for a little over a week - looked like I was pregnant

Oh I called my surgeon immediately! lol No, I was not waiting for a reply from here. Just looking for info to compare it to. My doctor said that fever is normal and happens. If it did not go away then it would be a concern. It went away and has not come back. I feel fine other then stomach discomfort.
I text a friend's daughter that had it done and she was swollen too. Apparently some just hold onto gas/air different than others. This morning is better but still not all the way better. I am down 21 lbs so hey I'll take a swollen belly for a few more days! lol Thanks for the replies.

I did. It was an Ileus, where the colon paralyzes as a reaction to surgery. Can you drink? Five days post-op I was retching at the smallest amounts.
I became severely dehydrating and was re-admitted. Better safe than sorry, go get checked out.

I drink about 28oz a day although yesterday I could only do 18oz. I am much better now. I got some GasX strips and that did the trip. My stomach is swollen but has gone down so much and some swelling is to be expected! I'm sorry you had to go through that! Thanks for the reply.
