I've hit a snag on my journey to get a sleeve
I am in my 3rd month of dr visits out of 4 and was going to get the surgery Nov or Dec. The first doc I wanted clearance from was my Gastroenterologist because I had a liver transplant 26 years ago. He immediately did not like the blood tests I did in April, specifically the alkaline phosphatase which was way high at 227. So I did a liver MRI, more blood work and a colonoscopy and saw him again today. The MRI and colonoscopy didn't show anything but the same old alkaline phosphatase was very high again (229). He ordered a liver biopsy which I've done a few times in the past but it will be over a month before it gets done and the results come back.
So I am pushing back my other appt's until I find out what's going on. Might be nothing, but if you search for alkaline phosphatase a high level seems to indicate trouble in the liver or bones. I am pretty worried at this point and may cancel the whole sleeve process if the biopsy shows anything.
So, wish me luck and we'll hope for the best.
Don

So sorry to hear this.
But it sounds like you are in good hands and he wants to be absolutely sure about this.
I am sending good vibes your way.
Take care!

Thank you Dutchie! I may be worried for nothing and normally don't worry about anything but this could turn into something I think.

Don, I'm sorry that you have to put the plans for the sleeve on hold for a bit, but I think it will be well worth it knowing that your are healthy enough for the surgery. Hang in there!
Here's wishing you much success with the ability to move forward as soon as possible.

Hi Don,
When I can say I don't know anything about transplant, I know that my bariatric surgeon was looking always carefully at my ALP levels because it could show gallstones/gallbladder issues, which can show up after you lost lots of weight.
Also, if I was you I would talk to the pharmacist about your meds, just to make sure it's not the reason why your ALP are high.
I had to take high dosage of PPI a few months ago before my stomach repair (strong asthma did push my stomach into my lung cavity, and reflux was awful) then I had all sort of issues the internist specialist was wondering if I didn't declare an auto immune disease. Long story short, I had several side effect from the PPi, changing brand did help a lot. Of course the specialist who prescribed the PPI "knew nothing about side effect"...but actually all PPi have strong side effects...shame most doctors know nothing about meds....and give you more meds to "help" with symptoms created by other meds in the first place!!
Hang in there, you might find a simple solution!
Good luck and take care!
