Bathroom issues and stomach pain
Surgery was May 21, 2018. Sorry this isn't a very nice question, but, problems having regular bowel movements since surgery. I am following the diet the doctor has given me. I'm just not sure what else I should be doing. Don't want to continue to use laxatives. Also when I'm not regular then my stomach hurts, when I try to eat solid food.
Re: Bathroom issues and stomach pain
HI! Well done on your weight lost already. I know bowel movements are a nice topic, but it seems to be a problem for sleevers. I had allot of problems going to the loo after surgery and the laxatives didn't seem to help. I landed up with an impacted bowel, which was the most unpleasant thing I have ever experienced. I landed up having to go to the doctor and get a fleet enema. That worked. After that I decided I was going to eat a couple of prunes every night and then take a laxative if needed. I still don't go often but it is far more regular than before. I also found by increasing fruit and foods like sunflower seeds which have fibre in them help. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted soon.

I agree that the lack of bowel movements is so frustrating. I was just sleeved on August 12th and it has driven me a little crazy. I mix Benefiber poweder twice a day and a powdered probiotic in 0 sugar Diet V-8 Splash and it seems to now be helping. I also have Fleet Suppositories because I also did not want to become dependent on a laxative.

I suffered a lot from constipation. Used stool softeners, suppositories, enemas...a total nightmare. Finally am regular from taking a nightly pill of 400 mg High Potency Magnesium softgel. It has to be softgel. Was recommended by a sleeve surgeon. It totally helps. If you are super constipated you can take 2 if needed but one nightly keeps me going.

It's so surprising to me that so many people suffer from constipation. I still have urgent diarrhea every morning :(

Christie, Thanks for sharing this..I had severe painful constipation after my surgery, the kind that requires a “full” enema every day for relief. Nothing worked, stool softeners, suppositories, Metamucil you name it...however, 400 mg of magnesium fixed me right up in a day or two. It’s been over a week now and everything flows like it should. Costco has natures way 400mg for around $11 for a 180 day supply which I’m sure is a pretty good deal Incase anyone is interested. God Bless

Super common problem. Looks like you've been given a lot of advice. Good luck!
Re: Bathroom issues and stomach pain
I tried just eating prunes, but you need to eat organic prunes, only than they can help
Re: Bathroom issues and stomach pain
I had the same. Just consult a doctor.

I can tell you straight away - you need to see a gastroenterologist because prolonged stool retention is most often a sign of diseases of the large intestine.

Of course, you were rightly advised to eat fiber, but it`s also important to have a full check-up. In fact, you can have problems with other body systems as well, because everything is connected. But if you feel that your disease is interfering with your life, I can recommend https://homecareassistance.com/palm-beach. I went to them when my seriously ill granny needed care. In any case, you need to consult a doc and not to self-medicate.

Try a paleo style diet, only use laxatives if you need to
