are you getting excited for your date yet? I'm a sleever from Long Island and had Dr. Ahmad.
I had mine October 23rd. I am doing great. I haven't gone to the groups either. I do not know if I will be going to them either. Seemed like a bunch of whiny people lol
I went to one meeting in December. It wasn't bad. Learned some things that I never thought about. Did go on a bit to long. Seemed at times same things were said over and over. I am going to try and go to Jan. meeting also. Hope some of the people who had just had surgery will be there.
Hi fellow LI's I had my sleeve in August of 2013, its nice to see others from my area on the site.
Greeting fellow Long Islanders :) Surgery is almost here!!!! This coming Monday February 10th!! Finished the pre op, PC and today was meeting with the surgeon - next stop - Winthrop Medical Center!!!
Good Luck Stacy!!!
I'm from Long Island. Best of luck to you.
I am from Long Island as well and I am having my surgery on the 26th at St. Francis hospital. Nervous but excited at the same time.
Well from what I can see Long Island is rockin the sleeve! (or gonna be soon!)!!!
Good luck to everyone. So far things are going great. Hope the same for everyone else.
What did you guys do for your pre-op diet? which protein shakes did you drink for the meal replacements? I am starting to prepare on what I need to get bc I am starting the liquid diet in a week. Any help would be much appreciated! :)
Helen
I used Bariatric Advantage brand protein meal replacement shakes. I drank low sodium, broth, which was great because it was the only thing that wasn't sugary based. Sugar free ice pops were good too. Crystal Lite, sugar-free jello and water with Mio drops. That was it.
Ok so you did get that meal supplement from ny bariatric...which flavor did you like the best?
Yes I did. I actually liked the strawberry better than chocolate. I never tried the vanilla. Are you having it done at Mercy Medical Center?
I just don't want to pay the $50 per bag but I guess I have to bite the bullet. I am going to st Francis hospital to do my surgery...I live on the north shore of LI so st Francis is closer to my house.
Ok, that's a great hospital. I work in Port Washington. Yeah the $50 is a little steep, but you won't have to buy food for the week. :D
That is true haha :)
Baldwin here and having surgery tomorrow at Winthrop Hospital - I hope we all stay in touch afterwards - Who knows maybe Sunday mornings meet up at Eisenhower park and walk the paths they have in the nicer weather! Brothers and Sisters of the Sleeve!
Best of luck tomorrow, Stacy. You are going to do great! We are pulling for you!
Suffolk County here! I'm 4 weeks out from surgery. Had a bit of a stall for week 3 and now the scale seems to be moving again. How is everyone doing?
Hows all the Long Island people doing??? For those post surgery hope your journeys going well with few bumps in the road. For those yet to have their surgeries - stay in touch :)
I am 6.5 weeks out and have never felt better (though honestly I never felt bad to begin with lol) Surgery was a piece of cake, no pain, no gas, and no discomfort what so ever. I took 2 weeks off to recover more so just to see if I would feel ok with having so few calories - but I felt fine. Going back was pretty easy and now I'm able to walk a lot more and will be progressing to going to the gym.
In the meantime I hope everyone here's doing ok :)
Hi Stacy! Sounds like you are breezing thru! That's great! I'm still learning how to get my water in, I'm not much of a water drinker... :(
Looking forward to feeling 100%, so far I'm just tired all the time. I went back to work 1 week after surgery, wish I could have taken more time but I couldn't.
No, but I love Long Island Teas. Haven't had one since my sleeve though...
Hi Stephanie - The water thing is a tricky one. Somedays I can get 48 ounces in some days 64 and others 40 lol I dunno what the heck I'm doing one day that's different from another. Where on the island are you??
I used to live in Manorville......way to far at the time to travel into the city everyday. Good luck with the water......if you come up with a solution on how to get the 64 oz in let me know!
Hiii Stacy, How are you?
I'm good. I'm finding it hard to get into the exercising but the weight is coming off. It is definitely a learning experience. I'm happy with it though.
I went to a great support group called Long Island Post Ops. They have fun outings, etc. They meet in Bethpage if you are interested. Very nice people.
Here is the website, you can also look for them on Facebook. Bariatric Support Group |L.I.P.O. Nation | Long Island Post-Ops They meet once a month and it is for all types of bariatric surgeries post or pre-ops. The meeting I went to was at the Bethpage Ice Skating Rink.
