Thyroid issues
Hi all-
As I've posted before, I am in the process of getting gastric sleeve. If all goes well, I should be able to get my surgery by end of August. I have a question for anyone that might have had their thryroid removed and might have any insight on how/if the surgery affected them in any way. I've had and continue to have, a lot of issues since my surgery and am just curious to know.
Thank you all.
BTW, this might show up somewhere else, I posted this in visitors messages by mistake.

Re: Thyroid issues
Hi IamDetermined!
I don't know if this will help you in your search for answers regarding this matter but I have hypothyroidism, and I am currently on an extremely high dosage of levothyroxine (336 mcg) daily. I have had this condition for quite some time and have had a VSG, and to the best of my knowledge there have been no known issues that stood in the way of me undergoing WLS. In fact, the only concern my surgeon had at the time was the extremely high dosage of medication I was/am on. Aside from that, I was fine and medically cleared to have VSG WLS.
I don't know much by way of thyroid removal, but I can also add that I have two nodules on my thyroid that are watched with a close eye for possible future removal, but there again, that was not a factor in seeking authorization for WLS.
Have a great week! :)

Re: Thyroid issues
Hi, I’m happy to help you. I had surgery 1-24-17. I have no thyroid left due to goiters and hyperthyroidism. Only issue I’ve had is needing to lower my dose after loosing over 100lbs. Since lowing my dose my thyroid blood levels have been normal. I took my meds before surgery then next day I grounded up my meds that could be grounded and added to juice than when able mixed with applesauce. Some meds I could get in liquid form. I took this way for about three weeks. Sleeve was the best thing I ever did. I had No real problems from the surgery and I have complicated medical diagnosis . Let me know how I can help. Re: Thyroid issues
Hello My Love
Just wanted to say I had my thyroid removed in January this year.
It was discovered the day before my sleeve was supposed to be done.
So instead of the sleeve I had my thyroid removed.
I then was able to have my sleeve in March.
It is brilliant now.
I can tell you there are only benefits for me.
I do sometimes get a little tired but I take my protein powder in my low cal hot chocolate and off i go like never before.
For me it has been no problem at all and it was only 8 weeks between both surgeries.
Hope it helps you.
I look forward to hearing how you get on.
Please let us know.
