4 days after surgery
Hi, I just thought I’d post a quick update. I had my surgery on Tuesday and came home yesterday ( Thursday). As those of you already sleeved will know the first few days after surgery are tough but I’m doing well. Managing to get plenty of fluids today although the wind/reflux it causes are a little uncomfortable. I am sure as each day goes by it will get easier, so I am very positive for the future and thought this might help anyone who is due surgery in the next few days.

Re: 4 days after surgery
Welcome! Great place for questions! And being positive I feel is the number one best predictor of success.
My doctor gave me a one month (preventative?). prescription for acid reflux. After that month I didn't need it. If you're not on meds and it's bad, you may want to talk to your surgeon.
You're right, every day gets easier. You're about to start your honeymoon period, where the weight just falls off. Follow the rules and you will be healthy and regular sized in no time.

Thanks sraebaer (as always) for the sound advice. I do have the recommended meds, my surgeon also prescribed and that helps.

Re: 4 days after surgery
Thank you, Sandown for posting. I am very excited and I have to admit kind of nervous - My doctor approved me for the gastric sleeve and it will be February 12th! I would love to hear more about your experience in the hospital since it is fresh in your mind. Is there anything that I should take with me to the hospital that I may not think of? Someone suggested chapstick and a heating pad. I feel like a child and I usually deal well with pain. The truth is I am worried about how much pain I will be in the first few days after surgery. I know this is silly and it will be worth it no matter what.
So thankful for this forum.

Re: 4 days after surgery
Hi Bonnie, firstly I’m very excited for you and I’m sure you will be fine in hospital. The worst part for me was the lack of sleep due to constant disturbance from the nursing staff to take obs etc. I know they have to do this but I just felt like I needed sleep as I was weak and had no fuel for my body to mend. I was in hospital for 2 days but as soon as I got home and had a good nights sleep I felt 100% better. Pain is a funny thing and everyone has a different pain threshold but I can honestly say that I experienced very little pain from the surgery itself. The most discomfort I had was from the gas/wind caused by the keyhole surgery. When you see the surgical team before your op ask them to do an extra push on your shoulders and chest to get that gas out, they have to pump it in to perform the procedure and they do literally push as much out as possible before they close up the small holes. So since I have been home I have not (as yet) had to take a single painkiller, just anti acid and anti sickness tabs. On the journey home, which was about 1 hour by car I felt extremely sick but nothing much since. Since being home I have slept in a recliner to elevate me a little to help with the reflux but tonight (night 6 since op) I feel the bed is calling !
Right now my tummy is more bloated than ever, I can tell by my loose fitting jogging pants but I’m sure that’s just swelling as 8 have already lost 14lb since I last wore them. All in all i feel much better than I expected and have had very little pain. I do realise that this is a journey and that could change as I go through the different phases of recovery, moving to mushy then soft then solids but right now all is good.
Try and be excited not worried about this major change in your life. If you want to know anything else please let me know, I’m very happy to share my experience with you x

Re: 4 days after surgery
Hi Bonnie. I forgot to say .... when I was in hospital someone gave me a boiled sweet to suck and it was heaven....it gave some much needed energy (from the sugar hit) and a lovely taste in my mouth, so worth a thought x

Re: 4 days after surgery
Hi Sundown, thank you so much for your post. I feel better already! ;) I live in the USA and not sure what a boiled sweet is. Thinking maybe it is like a sucker, which is a stick with candy on it. I can not have candy with sugar, but can have sugar free. My dietician said I can have sugar free mints the same day of surgery, so I will be sure to take a couple with me.

Re: 4 days after surgery
Glad you are feeling better, I have been unsuccessful so far of getting off my Prilosec. I am about 4 months out but it is a small price to pay for me.

Re: 4 days after surgery
Hi craftymary, Sorry to hear you have been unable to come off Prilosec. Are they for sickness ? I don’t recognise the name/brand.
