Weight Gain and Frustrated
Hello,
Well 2019 was a doozy! I had Thyroid surgery, cancer, and had my thyroid completely removed. Then in October I had a bunionectomy which the pin broke and I had to have it redone December 13, 2019. So 3 surgeries in one year. Well I have been on Short Term Disability since October and not been able to walk on my foot. So unfortunately I have gained 40 of my 90 lbs lost. I am so bored sitting all day and night. And yes I have been eating anything and everything being bored and depressed. I am also having my parathyroid checked as my calcium was wonkey the last time I had blood work after my thyroidectomy. So.....not to sound like Debbie downer, just thought I would share.
Thanks,
Darlene
Re: Weight Gain and Frustrated
Hi Darlene
Blimey, that sure is a lot that you have had to contend with.
Boredom can be a real issue. I need to keep busy otherwise I tend to gravitate to food too.
You need to find things to do to get yourself back on track - easier said than done probably!
Are there any hobbies that you can get into? Are you able to get around at all? Could you make use of a local swimming pool and either swim or walk up and down? What about a stationary cycle?
Once you are up and about I'm sure that you will get back into the swing of things. It might be helpful to get right back to basics. Protein first, then veg, forget carbs for the time being. Keep a food diary and/or track your food intake on an app. You've done it before, you can do it again.
Don't be too hard on yourself - you've been through quite a bit.
All the best.

Kiwi gave great advice so I really don't have anything to add. I am hoping for a speedy recovery. This is just a dent in the car, it is not a full blown total collision!
Re: Weight Gain and Frustrated
Hope you are on the mend from all your health issues. I don't even have any major health issues, but do so much better with my eating when I am busy. Retirement has caused some weight gain. (Still below goal, but it is so frustrating). Sitting around the house seems to be an excuse to eat.
Feel better! We can both get back on track!
Re: Weight Gain and Frustrated
Bless your heart! Vent away. It's hard with limited mobility, and access to food being all day.
Have you tried chair yoga? I'm older, and quite limited in mobility -- although a long way from my wheel chair/walker/cane days. It does help
How about journal writing?
Drink a glass of water every time before you eat/snack.
And back to basics as the ladies said.
Hang in! You'll get there.
