Bidding on your surgery price
Hi folks, I thought I'd let you know this little tidbit for those of you who want & desire the sleeve but are financially strapped. If you google gastric sleeve medical tourism in South America you'll come across many medical tourism websites. A lot of the sites will list gastric sleeve, banding, gastric bypass.
They will often ask which procedure you are specially interested in. You fill out a form. What happens is you will be offered quotes and listing of surgeries and doctor's in many countries to choose from. I had a friend who was severely obese and cash strapped. She told me she was offered quotes by doctor's who were willing to do her surgery for cut rate prices. Kind of like bidding on "priceline." I don't know what website she used specifically but I do know she got her gastric bypass for somewhere in the ball park of $5,000+ in some South American country. Exactly two yrs later she went to these same sites and bid on a cosmetic body lift and again she was able to find a doctor who did it very reasonable. Now normally these surgeries cost way more than you actually pay but for some reason if business is slow these doctor's are willing to do the surgeries for a reasonable price to stimulate some business for themselves. So I wanted to make you aware of it and it's good to know. Lorna

Re: Bidding on your surgery price
I don't think I would want a doc to perform surgery on me based on the fact that he/she was the lowest bidder. I would have to research his/her experience and reputation first.
Re: Bidding on your surgery price
This is MAJOR surgery not Storage Wars please be careful that is NOT how to get surgery, just my opinion.
Re: Bidding on your surgery price
It's possible to get a good doctor through medical tourism but you start by researching his/her experience, record, etc. not price. The price will almost always be lower by virtue of it being a Latin American country (for the sleeve/ soft tissue cosmetic surgery, anyway) so choose the doctor w/ the best skill, least amount of complications/deaths, etc.
Re: Bidding on your surgery price
in mexico I found out they don't have to report how many deaths they had so the doctor can have a record of no deaths because they legally don't have to report it.
Re: Bidding on your surgery price
Hmmm, IIRC we were told to do this from a Spanish speaking sleever who offered to help. Give me a few days to find her post...
