The Ultimate Choice....Mine or Not????
My mind is in a whirlwind over RNY. The visit with the surgeon yesterday has me thinking if going from sleeve to RNY a risk to take. From research RNY/gastric bypass is risky in itself. So, I'm wondering, am I damaging myself just to second chance a slim life because I made bad eating choices. Surgeon has given me 6 weeks to lose. He didnt give a specific amount of lbs to lose. He just said no carbs, no rice, bread, etc. Everything low-fat. Exercise 6 days a week. One protein shake a day. And no sodas. Basically he said anything outside of the produce section and seafood & chicken, stay out of. The ball is in my court and I am losing as much as I can by July 28th.
So, thanks to all supporters here, I read post that can help me along the way and have put together a menu for 6 weeks. Its redundant, but it works for me. And its a menu I can stick with.
And you would think since my stomach is smaller it will be crazy of me to not lose from simple instructions.

Were you unable to lose weight with the sleeve?

She lost a significant amount of weight with the sleeve (70 pounds) but regained it in short order due to emotional eating and life's unfortunate circumstances.
To the original poster: the battle with weight is lifelong, but you will find support on these forums. Good luck to you.
Re: The Ultimate Choice....Mine or Not????
I know of a gal that had her sleeve in Dec 2011 and just had a revision done 7 weeks ago. She's doing well but it's the same old same old as was with the sleeve; gas, reflux, dumping a little

Yes. A total of 70lbs, then an event in my life got me emotional. Thats when I learned what an emotional eater is. To gain it all back.

Thats reassurance. Yet, we're all different. Was the revision RNY????
Re: The Ultimate Choice....Mine or Not????
I am a new sleever......I suggest therapy. I have been in therapy to deal with my food issues since Oct.. surg was May as I wasn't going to put my body through this without working on the mind. I would say to try that and see if you can use the tool you have...RNY will not make emotional eating go away...plenty of folks with RNy regain it all back...you've already done this. If it were me and I was really high weight to start and had not lost enough....to RNY is the way it used to go. But you admit your issue is emotional eating so you have to deal with that. No surgery will fix us in that way.
Good luck!

They operated on my stomach, not my head!
I highly recommend therapy.
I am grateful to have the world's best (IMHO) therapist who helped me get down to "causes and conditions".
Best of luck as you continue your journey!

Therapy is not the route for me. Great for those who find it beneficial. I do know having the sleeve is a tool. Don't be quick to judge to "recommend' therapy. I thought my thread was about me making a choice to have RNY or not at my 6 week check up.
Re: The Ultimate Choice....Mine or Not????
Tmrw I'm on a 6 week plan. Went shopping today for items. My list consisted of Chobani greek yogurt, water, cream of chicken soup, watermelon, chicken broth, and jello. I'm ready.

I'm sharing my own experience. I don't judge!

Well it has truly been a while. After going through all the test, EKG, stress test, I have been given the thumbs up to proceed with Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass. My revision date is January 18th.Tomorrow I begin a two week liquid diet. I am very excited for a new beginning.

Sorry just saw this - not sure what she ended up with but I think that sounds right. She regained a massive amount of weight, nearly 3/4 of what she had lost in the start - last I saw her posting about on Facebook she lost it all again and then some.
