Fun way of getting some exercise
I don't like to exercise, in terms of cardio or fitness or weight lifting or any form of that.
I do however like to walk and I do a lot of hiking in the wild. :D
We are currently in Sweden and there are a lot of woods, moors, tundra's and mountains, so I have a lot to do.
But, even when I was just out of the hospital I did a lot of walking.
But I like to walk with a purpose.
Not only doing groceries, but something fun.
Well, we are hardcore geocachers.
If you don't know what geocaching is, you can take a look here: www.geocaching.com
Basically, it is treasure hunting for grownups.
All over the world, there are caches (the "treasures") hidden in streets, towns, woods, moors, mountains, even in the seas.
There are caches, especially for families with children.
it is a great adventure for the kids to go and find their hidden treasures.
All you need is to see where those caches are (on your computer at this website I mentioned), and some form of GPS device, that might as well be your smart phone.
You can start out real simple, you don't need expensive equipment.
We love it!
I love to go out in nature and go hiking with a purpose.
You will visit places you would never have seen without the cache hidden there.
You may be surprised how many caches might be hidden in your local town park.
Or even in the street you walk daily.
Or near your workplace.
You just check it out, it really is a fun way to go out and get some exercise!
Enter the name of your home town, you may be surprised how many caches are hidden there.
Re: Fun way of getting some exercise
I used to play Pokemon go with my youngest just to make her walk with me.
She wouldn't complain even if we walked really long distances!
Making it fun is always the best way with kids!!
Thanks for your great post and tips!
Re: Fun way of getting some exercise
Thanks, Dutchsleeve. I've never done this. I'm going to check it out. :)
Re: Fun way of getting some exercise
Let me know.
Would be fun to have one just around the corner, wouldn't it?
Re: Fun way of getting some exercise
My kids love to geocache! We go regularly since you can find them everywhere! Some of the best ones are the tiny micro caches (hard to find). My 7 year old daughter loves the bigger ones and she will usually bring some items to leave behind (she likes to exchange with something in the cache). Good fun and a great way to get the kids (and dog) out of the house exploring the woods!
Re: Fun way of getting some exercise
Sounds like fun. I'm going to check it out.
Re: Fun way of getting some exercise
Glenn: my kids loved it too!
Kiwigirl: lots of caches in Auckland. :D
It is also a nice way of getting to know a new town or region.
People hide caches to show you around in their neighborhood or surroundings.
Sometimes you have to answer a few questions about the things you see around you, to get to the hiding place, so it can be educational as well.

Re: Fun way of getting some exercise
As you may know, we are in Sweden right now.
We wanted to hike in the woods and looked online for a geocache.
We found one: https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2Z46A_stonehenge
This was an easy find.
Yes the temperatures are dropping to freezing points here... lol
I brought my morning coffee protein shake with me, I never leave home without it... :D

After finding the cache we did some more hiking and picked tons of blueberries and cranberries.
My dog helped a lot... lol

If somebody wants to share their favorite healthy, wls-version cranberry coffee cake recipe, it would be much appreciated! :D
Re: Fun way of getting some exercise
Actually sounds pretty cool.
Re: Fun way of getting some exercise
This sounds like so much fun! I signed up and there's several ones on the beaches near me so off I go! This is also pretty cool for me because I moved here full time and it gives me a chance to really explore the area!
Re: Fun way of getting some exercise
Good for you!
We really enjoy this.
For us it is a fun way to explore new cities, or a new stretch of nature.
We already have a lot of countries on our list.
Let me know how it turned out for you?
Re: Fun way of getting some exercise
I hate cardio, but I know it helps. But I love swimming. Now I try to do 10-20 min cardio in a gym, and after that do 45 min swimming
