Protein drinks
We were all told to drink protein drinks after gastric sleeve surgery. Are they supposed to help us lose weight? If I replace dinner with protein drink am I supposed to lose weight? I am asking because I am not losing weight at all, I am quite disappointed, I am now 2 months after surgery and I lost only 18 pounds first two weeks, since then I haven't lost any more.

Re: Protein drinks
At 2 months out it's your choice to drink protein drinks or not. If you don't, be sure you are getting your protein from food. Every meal protein first.
We all have stalls, but to have one for 6 weeks is a little unusual. Are you sure you are eating what you should? Because if you're eating any junk food you may not lose weight. If you are eating how you were taught, I'd have a follow up with my surgeon, maybe something else is going on.

Re: Protein drinks
I must admit I wasn't disciplined. I was supposed to just drink protein drinks for several weeks after surgery and I started eating solid foods after 3 weeks. I eat normal food but less, that is all.

Re: Protein drinks
You HAVE to follow the program to the letter for it to work properly. There is a reason the research has been done and the programs have been developed, because they work. Hang in there and become laser focused on the program and, I promise, you will see results from this "tool" you have received. Remember, it is not a cure, it is a tool. YOU are the cure!!

Re: Protein drinks
Thanks hookydad for your answer! I will try to be more disciplined

Re: Protein drinks
hookydad said it better than I can. The sleeve is merely a tool, it is not a miracle. Your head has to be fully in this game in order for it to work. The guidelines set forth by your bariatric team was given to you because it works. Don't try to short change the system. Follow those guidelines and you will continue to be successful.

Thank you Kenson, you are so right!

Re: Protein drinks
Love hookydad comments! I'm 3 years out, and I once in a while find myself making choices that I know are not in keeping with the sleeve as tool.
I do weigh daily, and track my food so getting"back" on track is easier since I know where I jumped off. I would encourage you to TRACk for a while and be sure you are limiting dense carbs.
I've held steady for 3 years...

Re: Protein drinks
Don't "try," just do it. I have seen way too many people not lose the weight because they didn't follow the program. I'm almost 7 years out and 6 at goal, and I still eat protein first, then veggies, and maybe some good carbs if I'm still hungry. Of course occasionally I'll have something like pizza or a treat, but it's not the norm. Also helps that I love to exercise, did 16 1/2 miles of mountain climbing the other day, over 2,000 feet elevation.

Re: Protein drinks
Wow sraebaer! It is definitely good that you like to exercise, I really don't. I will eat proteins first and than veggies and fruits.
