Re: Gastric Sleeve Newbie
Don't freak out about ur protein intake right now, worry about getting in your Water and taking your vitimins.
Everything else will fall into place, listen to ur body...Your going to have some days better then others but it's up to u to make the best of it and put your Sleeve to Work.Continue following ur docs orders and you'll be fine and reaching goal in no time.
Ummm Full liquid diet don't sound like much but with restriction is like a Thanksgiving meal...
Re: Gastric Sleeve Newbie
I drink EAS Protein shakes. They have 17 grams per shake. Only 100 calories, 1.2 carbs, low sugar and lots of vitamins. I get them at Wal-mart. They have dark chocolate, chocolate fudge, strawberry and vanilla. It would only take a little more than four to get all the protein you need. But I guess at this point it's best just to do what you can when you can. Good luck!
Re: Gastric Sleeve Newbie
I like the Premier Protein shakes from Sams Club.. the Chocolate tastes like Chocolate Milk, and for 160 Calories, you get 30 grams of Protein in 11 oz of fluid. I think only 1 gram of sugar as well
Re: Gastric Sleeve Newbie
Hi Penny and congrats on the surgery! Let me give you a tip about getting in the 80 grams of protein: 1 cup of milk, one light and fit greek yougart and 1 scoop of whey protein powder. sold at Walmart, I use the vanilla. blend together. about 51 grams of protein. two of these per day and you are golden in the protein dept. and the milk counts as your liquid!!! double whammy!! good luck~ christine
Re: Gastric Sleeve Newbie
I agree, don't stress yourself out trying to get all that protein in...it will come eventually. It just takes time for some of that swelling to go away and then you'll be good to go. The first few weeks you need to stay hydrated, get those vitamins in and get some rest as well. Take care and congratulations on your surgery!!
Re: Gastric Sleeve Newbie
Hi Penny,
I too am 1 week post-op and was worrying about getting in my protein, but my body craves liquid of all sorts, which i accommodate by drinking Pedialyte, V-8 and Apple-Grape juice watered down, as couple times i felt dizzy and light-headed indicating dehydration. So as the other indicated focus on getting in your fluids which is really important right now.
Re: Gastric Sleeve Newbie
Protein drinks, no problem. I liked those Isopure ones that were 40 grams protein. You can do it!
Re: Gastric Sleeve Newbie
So I looked back at my paperwork from my docs office and it reads, week 1 & 2 goals are just to get in 64 ounces of fluids each day. The start of week 3 you start with 1 vitamin a day and you're able to start pureed foods. At the hospital they have a bariactrict center and I was going by that paperwork and they were more pushing the full on stuff in the beginning. I tossed that paperwork to the side and am now on the docs paperwork and feel like it's all way more attainable goals. This surgery is not the easy way out, it's hard, its really hard BUT, you only do it once and then you're done. No more yo-yo dieting. It's amazing how you don't have any of the light headed, weak, headaches, irritability and all the other symptoms that come with not eating when you have the surgery. It makes it super easy to resist food when you don't feel any of those symptoms.

Thanks,

It will get better, you will have some swelling in your new sleeve for a bit, making difficult to all you need in, but as the swelling goes down, you will feel much better and be able to eat or drink more. It take a while for your brain to catch up, but you will get there.
