I have one from my first marriage and we have 2 of our own. Ages range from 26 to 11. I am just beginning my weight loss journey. I have state insurance, so I have hoops that I have to jump through before surgery. I was going with the bypass, but after doing research, I have decided to have the sleeve. I have at least 6 months before surgery. I am excited!
I used to live in Kelso! Welcome to a wonderful group of supportive folks who have so much amazing information.
Re: New from Vancouver, WA
Welcome Mandy! I use to live there as well! I miss hiking the gorge. Oh well I love it here in MN. My advice is to change the way you deal with food now during the 6 month period. It will help you get to your goal much faster and help keep the weight off after. I had to wait 7 months before I had surgery...stupid sleep test. Anyhoo my insurance required me to lose 10 pounds in that 6 months to show I could lose weight. I exceed my own expectations and lost 51 pounds! That made it possible for me to hit my goal weight 9 months after surgery. I'm currently 4 pounds below my goal weight. I chose my own goal weight because the Dr didn't want to give me one. It does make sense because they don't know where your body is going to settle at. This way there isn't any great expectations so if you don't hit the number you won't feel like you failed. I just wanted to have a normal bmi, that was my goal.
Read as much as you can here. There is such a wealth of info here! The veterans can really help as well. Ask anything. There are no stupid questions here. We've all been there. Good luck!

Mandy, you will have to get together with Tamera for hikes! I would LOVE to live where you do, sounds beautiful. And don't get me started on my love of mountains.

I wish you lived here Sraebaer, With both of us loving the mountain so much we diffidently would have a lot of fun! We should try in meet in Utah. We could backpack and hike all around southern Utah. Don’t know how far that is for you. I just remember you going there after me earlier this year. That is such an amazing place.

Welcome~I am (hopefully) finishing up my hoops now for surgery in April, so I know it seems like forever, but it will give you time to get to know some of the great people here and learn about life after the sleeve. I feel like I am so much more prepared as far as what to expect - and even what to pack to take to the hospital! Enjoy your journey - I am right here with you.

I want to go back to Arches National Park, I think that's Northern Utah. That park just took my breath away it was so beautiful.

I’d love to go back there too, that whole area is incredible. I was blown away by Utah, it took my breath away too. It will require many visits I think.

Hi Mandy! I have never been to Vancouver WA! LOL!! You have come to the right place. Lots of good people. I went through the 6 month insurance route as well but it was so worth every hoop I jumped!!
Re: New from Vancouver, WA
Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I have never hiked the gorge.
