Stomach pain after drinking fluids?
I am one week out and doing much better about getting all my fluids in. I have to say that switching to full liquids is wonderful! The problem is that whenever I go too long without something thicker (protein shake, cream of soup) and then eat it, I get a severe cramp for a few seconds after every drink. It is in my gut and it almost always happens in the morning and now in the afternoon as well when I wait too long. Does anyone know why this is? Is it possibly too much acid/reflux or maybe just my stomache clenching as it tries to digest what I just put in it.
Re: Stomach pain after drinking fluids?
I don't know much since I haven't had my surgery yet but I was reading something about taking an antacid and that will take that feeling away. But you should ask your Dr to be certain. Good luck!!!

I get the same exact thing, a cramp that last for only a second and disappears. I think it's just the peristalis (movement of stomach and instestines to move the food along). Our stomachs are still very new. I'm only 7 days out.
Re: Stomach pain after drinking fluids?
This is pretty normal as you're only a week after surgery. Eventually that will go away. Don't panic. Your stomach is getting used to everything and you'll feel weird pains here and there and it will make strange noises, etc. All part of the process. Good luck and let us know how you're doing.
Re: Stomach pain after drinking fluids?
I was just worrying about the same thing. This is day 2 for me and everything feels weird and sounds weird.
Thanks for the wisdom & experience.
Re: Stomach pain after drinking fluids?
I am on my second day since surgery. When I take a drink of anything, my stomach immediately send sharp, stabbing pain. I'm finding it difficult to drunk anything. Is this happening to anyone else? I'm in so much pain.
Thank you, Stscy
Re: Stomach pain after drinking fluids?
Was your stomach pain in the first weeks like a harp stabbing pain? I'm worried something is wrong.
Thanks, Stacy
Re: Stomach pain after drinking fluids?
You might try taking smaller sips. I mean tiny amounts. Kind of let it warm up in your mouth and then gently slide down your throat. You can't gulp like you used to, that will cause cramping for sure. Most importantly, just don't stop sipping, you have got to get your fluids in.
