What do you typically eat
Hi there I'm going to have surgery in June and was wondering if you can give me examples of what you eat on a daily basis. Just wondering what to expect. Do you ever splurge like say have some fries lol or is it goodbye forever to those type of foods
Re: What do you typically eat
I currently am 9 days shy of my 1 year surgiversary. I have been maintaining my weight since about 8 months out. I stopped about 20 lbs. shy of my goal, only because I was very satisfied with my results, and really didn't know what a good goal weight would be for me since I had been overweight since childhood. I am a 240 lb male and I am able to eat decent portions of food. For instance, I had a sausage egg and cheese biscuit for breakfast this morning. It takes about 15 minutes to eat a portion that size. I can eat a large slice of pizza, if I chew well. But one thing to remember, being a 240 lb person, i can eat a few more calories in a day than say a 150 lb person. I can probably sneak in a few more carbs than a smaller person as well. If i see the scale start to move up i just go back to the protein first approach and it goes back down.

I never said goodbye forever to anything, but on the rare occasion I feel like small Mc Donald's fries, I throw out at least half. I don't think I've tried them for a long time. Your tastes change to the healthier options. Big Macs were my favorite food ever, and I haven't had one in three years. Don't even want one. Now that they have small ones they don't sound good either.
I eat protein and veggies. Meat, fish, seafood, greek yogurt, nuts, low-fat cheeses, protein bars, etc. Hubby is a gourmet cook, and always follows our "rule of two." a protein and a veggie. Last night it was shis-ka-bobs with filet and veggies. The night before bay scallops with a salad. The options are endless. He also is great at making soups, we have split pea and chicken in the fridge. Frittas for breakfast are yummy, just bake eggs with veggies and some cheese (love feta). The leftovers will last many breakfasts.
I typically have leftovers to take to work for lunch. If not, I will grab a low-fat tuna lunch kit (crackers and tuna salad), low-fat string cheese, and low fat greek yogurt.

Today I ate...
Breakfast - three cups of coffee with half & half creamer
Lunch - large slice of three meat pizza (15 grams of protein)
Snack - one Quest protein bar (20 grams of protein)
Dinner - large slice of three meat pizza (15 grams of protein)
Snack - string cheese, pickle spear & turkey cold cuts (18 grams of protein)
Planned bedtime snack - one Italian sausage link (20 grams of protein)
I am going to be honest: I eat whatever the hell I feel like eating. Yesterday I ate fried chicken strips at every meal. I only count the grams of protein, so anything with sufficient protein is fair game for me regardless of how much carbs or fat it has. Since french fries do not have much protein, I generally do not eat them.
I do not closely track my caloric intake. I do not use calorie-counting apps such as My Fitness Pal because, to me, they reinforce the dieting mentality. Humans are the only members of the animal kingdom who count, measure and track food (not me). I also run an average of five miles per day for exercise.
I have been able to maintain my weight range of 118 to 120 pounds nicely, so my way has been working for me. Other people track every morsel of food they put into their mouths using calorie counting apps, but that lifestyle is not for me. Your mileage may vary.

I eat protein first and then veggies. I do occasionally splurge....and it is usually a bite of something nutrient void, not a whole portion. Nothing is off limits but honestly I don't crave the junk food but mainly I think that is because I eat low carb and that alleviates a lot of cravings.
