What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?
I do enjoy my Rum & wonder if I'll ever be able to enjoy it again?
I understand that it is liquid calories & all that.
They told me at a class I attended that I could have a drink again after 6 to 9 months...
What has been your experiences with this?
Re: What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?
I'm so right there with ya. I had my surgery Nov 9th n I'm having a sip New yrs eve its a must. I don't a sip will hurt. I sooo miss my rum n then my tequilla shots when my day get rough. No one had a definate response on when you can drink again. I've heard anywhere from 6 mths to a yr n then to never
Re: What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?
Well... I miss my margaritas in a way I can't even explain...my doctor said no alcohol at all at least for the first year, alcohol slows down weight loss.
So I am sacrificing it and trying not to think about it. I wouldn't do anything on purpose to slow my weight loss down...
Re: What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?
Yeah some of them said NEVER again.....
& I was so happy to hear 6 to 9 months. :D
I'm going to the UK next summer & I would hate to be the only guy in the pub without a drink in his hand.
Even if its just one drink I can just slowly sip, so I'm at least not that American guy that don't drink.
Re: What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?
Well I'm not listening to the never part. My job is stressful to say the least so when I have a bad day I'm havin a shot, lol. But that will occur at a later date prolly when I'm close to target weight n I only have 60 lbs to go
Re: What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?

Habit?!?!?!
I currently drink pretty routinely...
Re: What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?
The thing about alcohol is that it does thin the blood and with fresh surgery you dont want that! Even thought they make you think this is very minor surgery you have a very long incission line internaly! After the 6-9 mon. it should be ok to have just 1 drink but you must realize it will very possibly make you intoxicated much faster! Be SURE and Dont drink and Drive !!!!
Re: What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?
I am definitely going to check with my nutritionist on this one. She did tell me before the surgery that I would not have to give up my wine, which I used to enjoy with my dinner 4 or 5 nights a week. I haven't had any since the surgery of course, but am wondering when I can start having a small glass once in a while. Although, we're not supposed to drink while eating, to make certain we don't fill up too fast...so I guess I'll have to occasionally have a small glass of wine as my desert an hour after dinner or so. Well, I don't go back to see her for 3 more weeks, so I'll try to let you all know after I've had that discussion. Sorry, I'm not much help today.
Re: What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?
Well I must say this for New Years I will have a sip of whatever to bring in the new year. As for having a glass of whatever my drink of choice is won't be for awhile, I'm still scared to try some foods. But I did have a half of a shot of chocolate cake for my in laws 40th anniversary, can't upset the mother in law. I would never drink and drive only because I know the outcome (I'm a dispatcher).
Re: What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?
You can still dispatch with a DUI on your record.. :p
You never know Alcohol might become one of those things we liked before the surgery & then don't after...
I figure I'll wait to my trip to the UK, before drinking again after the surgery.
Well....... Actually I think I'll test the waters just before the trip so I don't get sick in front of my wife's family. ( Being I don't know how I'll react to it. )
Re: What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?
My surgeon said no alcohol for at least six months preferably a year. You have to be careful because after surgery it hits you harder and faster but lasts less then before.
Re: What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?
My doctor said one year! My whole social calendar revolves around dinner and drinks with my friends!! What's a newly divorced, newly sleeved gal to do?? =) I refuse to break the diet but know NOT drinking will put a damper on my outings. What are some options since soda is not allowed either??

Re: What about drinking alcohol after the sleeve?
Gloey, if you like tomato juice, you could always order a virgin bloody mary. Then, you can sit and stir your drink with your celery stick while you ponder the universe. Or order bottled spring water with a glass of ice and a slice of lemon or lime. Once the bottle disappears, no one will know you're not having an alcoholic beverage.

Well my plans are to go to England & Scotland next july or so....
& that would be about 6 months..
& will be my 1st time ever to the UK & over there they like to hang out in pubs.. :D
I hear you on being a new single girl with a much better body That wants to go have fun with it. :p
I personally drink rum mostly ( I'm actually drink rum now ) , But dont drink it with soda at all.
I always drink it with non-carbonated tea!
Snapples or Brisk are my favs.
Pick your flavor.
But I would recommend replaced the carbonated drinks with Tea.
Or if you like vodka I think orange juice & grapefruit juice etc is ok after the sleeve?
The best part is if you realize you should stop drinking booze nobody will ever realized you stopped & dont have alcohol in your drink anymore. ( so they stop egging you on to drink more with them.. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/...milies/m2c.gif
