problems eating solid food
It has been 1 1/2 months since my sleeve surgery and having problems eating more of the solid meat that is on my list. I chew it until it is like applesauce and eat slow. It hurts and feels like it is just stuck there for hours. Any suggestions or thoughts?
Re: problems eating solid food
Meat is difficult at first. It's totally normal. I remember my first try at a chicken breast at about 6 weeks; after 2 bites I thought I might die. It will get better over time, I promise. Now I can eat a small chicken breast, no problem.
If you like fish, try that, as it is much easier on the tummy. Softer and less dense, but packed with protein. Salmon, scallops, tuna, shrimp, etc. Seafood is my all time favorite!
Re: problems eating solid food
10 months out I still find red meat a bit difficult. I can eat chicken and fish until the cows come home but lamb and beef are a different story. They feel really heavy in my stomach. Casseroled/stewed they are slightly easier and gravy makes everything better :-)
This early out maybe stick with what you find easiest and try again a little later with the more difficult meats?
Re: problems eating solid food
Listen to your body and stomach.
When you are having pain or difficulties, don't eat it.
Solid proteins are the hardest to eat in the beginning.
So when you feel something is not agreeing, stop eating it.
You can try again in a couple of weeks or even months.
You will get there, but apparently this isn't the time yet.
Don't push it, take it slowly.

I was just about to say the same as Sraebaur ... stop eating it and try fish!! I am just crazy about the seafood, and so much easier on my tummy :-)

Thank you!
Re: problems eating solid food
It gets better. For months I could not eat much solid proteins. I did eat a lot of Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt but always tried to eat some solid proteins daily so it would get better. Hang in there.
Re: problems eating solid food
Soups with protein in them are also good since you get the meat softened and a little fluid with them. Can also hit stuff with a mallet to thin and soften it before cooking. Breaking down the tendons in the meat will make it easier to chew and digest.
Re: problems eating solid food
There are 5 people here answering her question.
Some of them are years out and some not so long, but definitely more than 3 weeks.
They all say "don't eat it, if it does not agree with you".
I begin tot feel like Tinman right now.
