I had surgery on 1-3-17 & I'm still in misery...
I had surgery over a month ago, I'm now at home on TPN IV nutrition and an IV anabiotic once a day. My daughter is taking care of me, I can't hardly do anything for myself. I'm in constant pain from my stomach. I was enrolled in college full-time but I had to withdraw for this semester and I may have lost my job over all this too. I just want people to know, if you have complications they may not be minor. I had a blood clot in the portal vein to my liver from flying so soon after having surgery and I also developed a leak along the staple line of my sleeve. I spent 17 days out of 31 in the hospital in the month of January. I'm on the TPN nutrition, one IV anabiotic, a blood thinner, an acid reducer, an antinausia pill, and hydrocodone for pain. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from surgery, I just want you to know that if things don't go well, the complications can be pretty bad. I currently have two stents in my stomach that will hopefully allow the leak to heal. I will have surgery on 14 February to have them removed, they will have been in place for 25 days. The stents are what make my stomach hurt so bad. If the stents don't work and allow my stomach to heal, I may have to have a full gastric bypass in order to fix it. I followed all pre-and post op instructions, I did nothing to cause my complications. I have had a few surgeries in the last three years due to being a recent breast cancer survivor. I normally bounce right back, I'm definitely not a wuss. I guess I just want everyone to know, this surgery may not be as minimally invasive as you think. Having possible complications is very real, and it sucks really bad. Please be aware, and please be careful... I hope and pray no one else has to go through what I have gone through and am still going through.

Goodness you've certainly been through a lot with more to go. I've been thinking of you wondering how you are doing.
I hope everything goes well with removal of the stents so you can be on your way to recovering.

So sorry you are going through this. I was so lucky to have no complications whatsoever. Be sure you are in constant contact with your surgeon. Pray things get better for you!

I'm so sorry to hear everything you've gone through. praying you have a full recovery and don't require a bypass. I was on a feeding tube & tpn and Iv antibiotics 4 years ago because of gastroparisis. No fun. You are a survivor!! I hope and pray you receive a full recovery and your next surgery goes well. Did you have a leak test before you came home and how many days after surgery did you travel?

Lisa,
My heart goes out to you!
Hopefully from here on is nothing but good news for a speedy recovery.

Thank you...
I had surgery on a Tuesday, a leak test on Thursday, flew home on Friday. I found out a leak test that soon isn't really worth much unless you have a huge leak because you're still swollen from surgery, it's after the swelling goes down that you need to be tested, a week or so out from surgery.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you have your surgery?

Lisa,
I'm so very sorry you are still dealing with complications. It seems that it's taking a very long time to go away! At least you have your daughter to help!
You are doing the right thing coming in here and giving your testimony, because too many people forget that yes we lose weight, but it's still surgery and there's risks. Complications can happen to anyone and for no reason!
Because I had a blood clot a few years ago (PE during pregnancy) I had anticoagulant post-op for my sleeve. I've learned since my PE that being obese and pregnant I had a higher risk of developing blood clots. Even if my blood is naturally too thin!
I hope your stents will work and that you will be out of the wood very soon. Best wishes for your recovery. Take care my friend and keep us posted!
