How long is the anticipated stay in hospital following surgery??

Having had a lapband with only an overnight stay in hospital years ago I am unsure how long to expect to be in hospital for the gastric sleeve. I dont see my surgeon again until next Wednesday, 6 days out from my surgery so I will be checking with him but just wanted to see what the average stay is. I have 4 kids to organise! (lucky me) :confused:

Also what tests, if any, are done (check for leakage etc)

Anxious but very excited.

My daughter and I had surgery on a Friday morning and by Saturday mid afternoon we were comfortably resting at the hotel. Some stay an extra night, we were both feeling amazingly good.

Thank you for replying. I found another thread and read through that too. Seems the average stay is 1-3 nights, that puts my mind at ease, I was thinking it might be alot more. I hate being in hospital. I get more rest at home with 4 kids than I do in there every time.

Looking at your progress chart you are doing so well. I am so surprised at all the weight that people are losing. You are more than half way to your goal, congrats.

Alot of variation, I will stay one night, assuming no complications.

I was in 1 night...and left the next afternoon around 2:00 p.m. I had the lap band prior and that was out-patient

I went in expecting to be released later that day, as that is what is anticipated. However, after surgery, all I did was sleep, and didn't really "wake up" until Saturday morning. Well, now we are on to the second day. Then I couldn't even think of drinking, let alone eat anything. So he made me stay another day. The next day I had a popsicle, so I got to go home!!! I was walking and peeing all by myself the morning after, so it was not like I was lethargic :)

Went in early Wednesday morning, was home by Thursday 4-ish, I think. I could have gone home earlier but there was a wait for the liaison from my doctor's office to get around to me.

I'm going for mine Saturday and assuming all goes as expected will be in hospital Saturday night, Sunday night and discharged Monday, flying home Tuesday. Oh and the swallow/leak tests are done the day after surgery, so that would be Sunday. I have pre-op tomorrow.

I had to stay in Mexico a few days after to get my drain out. They said they would remove it on a wed but both my daughter and I did so well we got it out on Tuesday changed flights and left Tuesday afternoon (surgery on Friday morning).
