Sleeve conversion
Hi there,
I had lap band 2009 which has gone horribly wrong; gastric reflux and band slippage. Now I am facing the question, do I want to start all over again and do a CONVERSION to a gastric sleeve. Anyone had a conversion that would share with me your experience and what the difference in eating behavior might be? I have had reflux for so long with food stuck, I cannot do that again. Any advice is most welcome. Thank you.

Re: Sleeve conversion
Hi there,
I did not have a conversion to a sleeve, as this was my first weight loss surgery. But, I have had my sleeve for just over 3 years. Personally, if I were you, I’d consider a gastric bypass instead of the sleeve. Many people still experience GERD and reflux with a sleeve; sometimes it even exacerbates the issues. I am one of those cases, my reflux is a constant barrier and I feel miserable most of the time.
Hope this helps a bit, feel free to reach out if you have more specific questions!

Re: Sleeve conversion
Thanks for the information. I know that several people still experience the GERD after conversion, still thinking.

Re: Sleeve conversion
Yep, the sleeve can be a beast for reflux/gerd. I never had it before, but since getting sleeved 5.5 years ago, it's been awful.

Re: Sleeve conversion
Lately the GERD has dissipated, but I am nervous about converting to a sleeve as I do not want it to return. I am 5'4" and 223. Since having my band 11 years ago I have yet to hit below 200 :( because everything I would eat would get stuck, so I drank way too many calories. I think I now know how to eat and feel better, but I do not want to be given false hope. I will be seriously considering my options. I am sorry to hear that you have reflux symptoms for so long. Do you have any regrets from having surgery?
