Update 3 1/2 weeks post surgery
Just wanted to update everyone 3/ 1/2 weeks after surgery. I am down 35 lbs! Things are going well but I am still struggling with getting in the protein. People are saying I look tired. I am not allowed to eat a bit more variety of foods. I have zero side effects from the surgery and was prescribed antacid which I have not taken once as I have had no issues. I am taking my vitamins and calcium supplements. All in all I would say the surgery has been a success thus far my only issue is getting in the protein. I have every shake I have tried. Looking for a tasteless powder that I can add to my food and drinks? Someone recommended GenePro but I have heard that the claims of 30 grams per serving is wrong and there is a lawsuit.

Hi Larman, congratulations you are killing it!! So happy that you've had success and isn't it amazing how much different you feel once that excess weight start falling off? Not just physically, but mentally as well. I bet your family is thrilled as well.
I cannot tolerate many protein shakes most are either too sweet or too thick. I found the best to be Isopure and Unjury. Unjury has one that is unflavored that I use in all types of food and drinks and it dissolves easily and is tasteless. I think you will like it. I still drink 1-2 protein shakes a day at 3 1/2 months out.
Keep up the good work.

Congratulations! Sounds like you're doing well. The protein shake that I've found that I still like 5 years out is Jay Robb. I buy the vanilla and add a little peanut butter and 1/2 a banana as per my NUT. Keep doing what you're doing.
Re: Update 3 1/2 weeks post surgery
Wow Larman, that's great! Like coopersmom I like Unjury products. They have an unflavored and you can even get them in single packets to see if you like them. Looks like you're off to a wonderful start. Keep it up!
Re: Update 3 1/2 weeks post surgery
WOW! 35 lbs is AWESOME, Larman!
I agree with the above ^^^ Unjury is the best unflavored. For me Isopure and Syntrax Nectar are the best flavored. I use 1/3 serving of EAS in my coffee in the morning.
As time goes on you may find you’ll be able to tolerate the flavored protein. In the meantime, sip every 10 minutes. Protein drinks count towards fluid intake.
Keep up the great work! You’re killing it! ;-)
Re: Update 3 1/2 weeks post surgery
You are doing fantastically!
Can't help with the protein as we have different brands here. Hope you find one you like.
Could you get a vanilla and add some flavours to it in a blender?
Re: Update 3 1/2 weeks post surgery
I'm with you on the protein shakes. I have found I like the yogurt shakes, I get most my protein from yogurt and cheese. And now that I can add eggs and cheese, I eat them everyday.
Re: Update 3 1/2 weeks post surgery
It's already been suggested but grab the Syntax nectar protein packs. Their flavors are delicious!!! I mix it into water with ice and sip happily!
I have also poured the mix into my popsicle molds.
I also mix the non fruit flavors into my plain light yogurt and YUM! I'm going to try them in some decaffeinated coffee next.
They have a sampler pack at Walmart so you can try a bunch of flavors. You won't regret it.

You are simply rocking it sir!! Looks like we were both in about the same situation starting out. You are going LOVE this journey! AS for Protein, I just used the Premier Protein from Costco. I likes the flavors and they were not gritty or chalky flavored. I lived on those for a while. I am far enough along where I get most of my protein from food now, but I still have a protein shake virtually everyday as I got back into weight lifting and am trying to add muscle.
Keep up the good fight, and as I always say, just picture yourself July 2020. Completely different person/life.
Re: Update 3 1/2 weeks post surgery
Congrats on your success! that first month is often when we lose the most. And then the third week stall for most of us, but no worries, it's temporary.
I had a very hard time drinking just water and even worth protein shakes post-op. For three month I didn't reach 40 gr protein per day, lost some lean mass but after it was fine and I did build some muscle back with exercise.
I tried so many powders, try to get samples or it can get expensive quickly. I couldn't have whey or even milk, so I went for vegan. I liked the unflavored Sunwarrior, mixed with PB2 for more protein, and some dark cocoa for taste. Was low in carbs and high in protein, around 30gr. Anything higher is useless anyway, our metabolism can't absorb more protein at once. I used water with ice, or even almond mild sometimes. I also used some organic rice protein or pea protein (taste for pea is hum...weird..).
If you can tolerate it, soy protein has the higher absorption level by the body, almost as good as whey. I use the Now soy protein isolate, which is non OGM.
I'd rather make my own shakes anyway since some many "all made/flavored" formulas have artificial sweeteners which I'm intolerant to.
Good luck and take care!

Hi,
I had my surgery 7/30/19. Congratulations on your success. I’ll be right behind you! Luckily I am not having any issues with getting enough protein. I found one protein drink (pre-made) that I really like a lot. Until I can eat enough protein I am drinking one 11 ounce carton of “Atkins Plus Protein and Fiber” It has 30 g protein, 7 g fiber, 2 g net carbs and 1 g sugar. I like the one labeled “creamy milk chocolate” I found it n CVS. My grocery store has Atkins brand but not the 30 g protein. I don’t like the one with 20g . Hope this helps. Let me know.

Do you drink milk? Fairlife is high protein so it can help. The sweetness of the shakes that I liked pre op grossed me out post op for a while. I liked to make big latte's with espresso, fairlife milk, and Splenda. There are lots of high protein foods out there. Use google to look up ways to add protein in. Also, if your energy is low make sure you are taking a B12 supplement. Energy levels will increase. Hang in there. And congrats on 35 lbs!! Awesome!
Re: Update 3 1/2 weeks post surgery
It sounds like you are doing great. I also had a great experience with the sleeve surgery. No side negative effects from the surgery. The only protein drink that goes down easily and I think tastes good is something found in CVS. It has 30 grams of protein, 7 grams of fiber and 1 gram of sugar. It is “Atkins plus Protein” I couldn’t find the 30 gram one in grocery stores. The fiber has also really helped. Congratulations on doing so well.
