Re: Wait times in Canada are Crazy
I'm in Quebec and just got my referral to see two surgeons. the problem is I'm looking at a 12 month wait time just to get in for my initial consultation then the average wait time for non diabetic patients is anywhere from 1-5 years!! I am currently in the early stages of research, and am interested in having surgery in Mexico. I would like to get as much information as possible!
Re: Wait times in Canada are Crazy
I'm in QC and was aproved for the Gastric sleeve. there are clinics in Toronto and Montreal that do it, but the cost is insane if you go private, and public as in covered by medicare the wait times are in sane! that's why i'm looking into having it done in Mexico
Re: Wait times in Canada are Crazy
Willing to pay for this myself in Canada, I was accepted with a wait of more than one year in Ottawa and a few of about $20,000 CAD and subsequently told that I was "ineligible." Got it done in upstate New York (Ithaca, three hours drive from Ottawa, four hours from Montreal) for about $19,000 CAD. Had it done within a couple of months there and could have had it done sooner but I could not get time away from work earlier. Very happy with results and followup there and with a doctor in Canada.
Bonne chance. La meilleure chose ce que j'ai fait dans ma vie...
Re: Wait times in Canada are Crazy
I am also from Canada and couldn't believe the wait time and the cost of having the procedure done! I ended up going to Mexico and I don't regret it :) I talked to my doctor before I booked my date though. He told me that he thinks part of the reason for the wait here is to deter people from having it done. Not to mention all of the counseling and other hoops you may have to jump through!
Re: Wait times in Canada are Crazy
Hi,
I live in Edmonton, how long it takes to get the surgery? I was not thinking to travel aboard for the surgery.
Thanks,

My wait wasn't that long, it was about a two year process from the moment my GP offered it to me... the only thing topic that added additional wait time for me was COVID 19, having access to OHIP and not having to worry about the cost is okay by me... if that means I have to wait! Check out my video on youtube on how COVID affected wait times for me.... Okay, can't post URl's yet but ask for the link and ill share with you :)
Check out my video blog on the topic! https://youtu.be/qhzBf18BunY
