Post-op Questions

Hi all,

I had outpatient gastric sleeve and hiatal hernia surgery yesterday. All in all it is going well. Pain is now manageable with Tylenol and I am able to get beverages down without much trouble.

I do have a few questions:

1. Did any of you have challenges with your lungs. I started coughing a lot after surgery and ultimately they treated me with an nebulizer treatment and sent me home with a spirometer. The cough is better today than yesterday, but I feel like I struggling to take deep breaths. Also, my lungs hurt. I am taking my temperature and it is normal. I am concerned about pneumonia. Is this all very normal?
2. I have be Ien burping a lot. am also trying to walk at least 5 minutes every hour and I even got up and did it in the middle of the night. I have yet to pass gas out the other end. Is this normal.

I had coughing after gastric sleeve surgery, during the first week. I think it was from the anaesthesia.

Edited to add: It’s great that you are walking. I burped a lot too and my system normalized over the first week.

Thank you so much! It is really hard to tell what is normal and what is not. No fever so I am thinking this is all part of the process.
