I travel as well my doctor made me wait for 6 weeks, then I have to walk around every hour. The concern is blood clots, I am not sure how long the possibility is there, but I sure don't want to be traveling and get one.
Ask your Doctor and get their opinion. Good luck!
thanks for that advice. At the moment I always wear circulation stockings when I travel and I will continue to do so post op because they stop my feet from swelling up long haul. Seeing my doc on Monday so will speak with them.
I flew to Europe three months post op.. I cleared my schedule to make sure I would be healed enough. I could have gone after two months. Flying was not a problem, as long as you are back on solid food, and have had no complications. Ask your Dr. to be sure.
I had to fly just 4 days post-op because I had traveled to Mexico for my surgery. Lots of people on this forum have gone to Mexico. My flight was fairly short, but a lot fly further distances with no issues.
i wqas worried about traveling from Mexico back to Missouri. If you walk the entire time- every hr- after surgery- by day 4 you should be fine. Wear compression stockings under your clothes for the plane too. Stretch your legs and rotate in circles your ankles.
Thanks so much
Thanks everyone
I also travel internationally fr work - my surgeon told me 10 weeks. However i notice that some guys on here fly to mexico and back for the op.
I'm sticking to 10 weeks though to avoid any issues with clots
I took a 3 hour flight 4 days after, I hadn't any problems. Some of the problems occur in longer flights, because people do not get up and move around and do not hydrate themselves well enough. I bought a large frozen health drink in the terminal ( My son had to finish it )and got up every hour on the flight. I didn't wear the compression socks. Best wishes
My surgeon asked me hold on on international travel for 10 weeks minimum. She said that she rather have me close during this healing process. She can transfer me to my hospital from any other in the country but nit from over seas. Clot wise we can be cleared very soon.
hi,
unfortunately i have no answers, just similar questions. i too will be coming from abroad and will have to return within a month of surgery. i'm concerned about blood clots both before and after. i don't know if the long flight from china just days before the surgery can impact clotting or not. i know it can be an issue after surgery.
