After 2 - 3 years after the sleeve, is your stomach still restricted.
I am thinking about the sleeve, and wonderng if after 2-3 years is your stomach still resticted?
Do you have to eat small amounts of food? I understand that you can eat the things that are bad for you.
But all in all do you still have to eat in small amounts and still feel full?
Thanks for your help.

I am not sleeved yet, but I will say that I was at a support group meeting recently and a lady there had wls 35 years ago. Granted, she had stomach stapling or some other medival approach lol but she stated that all these years later, she still cannot eat as much as she used to. She looked fantastic. You could tell that she used her tool the best she could.

I was told that your stomach should remain the same size but you can stretgh it if you constantly push past your point of fullness.

I am 1 year post op- so not exactly who you are asking for, but I still have a restricted amount of room in my stomach. Yes, I can eat more now than in the first 6 months but we're talking 8-10 oz instead of the 32-40 oz I could eat before.
Re: After 2 - 3 years after the sleeve, is your stomach still restricted.
Same here. A regular stomach pre surgery can hold 32oz or more. The surgeon is supposed to take 75% to 80% of your stomach out. So you are left with about 6 to 8oz capacity. All sleeve stretches a little over time. And if you eat frequently (snacking) in small amount, you can definitely pack back on the pounds you have lost.
Re: After 2 - 3 years after the sleeve, is your stomach still restricted.
Only a year and a half out here, but my restriction has remained about the same for the past 12 months or so. But around months 6-7 post op, I noticed being able to eat a bit more than I could at months 4-6 post-op. My Dr's words....."Your stomach doesn't stretch so much as it becomes more accomodating to food".....or something like that. He told me to compare it to an old sneaker that has been broken in. When you first bought it new, it was firm and tight and sometimes difficult to get your foot into. After a few months, it's looser and it's easier to get your foot (food) in and maybe an extra sock or two as well. I'm not sure of his exact words, but it was something like that and made a lot of sense to me.

I was told that after a year and forever after you might be able to eat as much as a cup of food. I'm sure it varies.
Re: After 2 - 3 years after the sleeve, is your stomach still restricted.
I find that protein like seitan or Boca burgers really fill me up quickly at 6 months post op. I can eat much smaller amounts of dense protein. I guess that's one of the reasons it's protein first
Re: After 2 - 3 years after the sleeve, is your stomach still restricted.
I am almost a year out. I can eat about 1/2 a cup of food at a time. I saw things change around 6 months. The weight it still coming off though.
Re: After 2 - 3 years after the sleeve, is your stomach still restricted.
Everyone's sleeves are definitely different both in capacity right after and in the long haul. I'm 7 months out and can eat 8-12 ounces of food, so I have to make smart choices. I was able to easily eat a cup (or more) 1 month after surgery but I didn't push it beyond that simply because I had no hunger back then. There will be no adequate guide, we each will heal / stretch / accommodate food differently but I guarantee you that you will have good restriction yet enough capacity to properly nourish yourself.
Re: After 2 - 3 years after the sleeve, is your stomach still restricted.
Im almost 2 years out and My tummy is still restricted. I find it hard for me if I even try eating more than I should it becomes very uncomfy
Re: After 2 - 3 years after the sleeve, is your stomach still restricted.
I'm 2 years out in August and there is still restriction....depending on the food. When I eat protein, I can probably eat a 6 oz burger (max) but popcorn or pretzels (slider foods) I seem to be able to eat unlimited amounts. Thus the reason I'm back on the sight, I need to get back to basics and need the support of the only people who can understand what our post surgery life is like...us! Can I eat like I did before, no way!
Re: After 2 - 3 years after the sleeve, is your stomach still restricted.
Hi
so I am almost one year out and I noticed that I can eat more the later it is in the day. In the morning my stomach is pretty restricted. So I can eat one Protein bar (usually my breakfast) and I feel full. For Dinner I can eat a lot more. I know it is probably too much, but since I am only eating healthy stuff I think it is okay. So today for example I made a salad (Just so you know what I am talking about):
2 cups of lettuce (Baby Spring Mix)
1/4 cup of great Northern Beans
1/4 cup of black beans
1/4 cup of white Hominy
1 string cheese light
1 Boca Burger
I could eat half of that. This might be way toooo much for some, but I can easily eat all of that. But I eat very slow so it might take me 20 minutes.
So to answer your question: I think it depends on your body how much you can eat after surgery.
I hope this helped.
Tina

I am 9 and a half months out and notice I could eat a little more after the 6th month, I just chose not to!
