Hi there! Interesting topic for sure...I was without my period for 17 months as a normal part of menopause. I'll be 54 next month, so it wasn't that because of my weight there was something wrong. I never had a problem with my cycles even with my weight loss and gains over the years. Anyhow, it came back a few weeks ago to my surprise. I was experiencing the various symptoms I always did: chills, lower back ache, tender nipples and even though I haven't had any hunger since surgery, I was wanting to eat some carbs, although I really did not other than a few pretzel thins now and again.

It lasted for 7 days which is what it did when I first started as a kid. Before I stopped it was down to about 4 days. I miraculously stopped having cramps in my early 20's and thankfully I didn't have any this time and the flow was about the same as before.

I don't know if this helps at all, but that has been my experience. The surgeon said that the estrogen is stored in the fat and with the great weight loss pretty quickly over the 4 months it flooded the body again. How long the periods will stick around again, I don't know and he couldn't say either. One other woman here said she got 2 periods and then they stopped again. I shall see what fate has in store. I'm not worried that there's anything abnormal happening to me.

Good luck and let me know how it goes with you!

CG -- I love you! Just sayin......

Hey CG- I'm glad I made this decision too. Even post-op wasn't as bad as I had expected. I was prepared for the worst though... lol. I feel like I've 'bounced back' a lot faster than I thought would be possible. That probably has something to do with having a lovely amount of time off work! (I'm sure I'd be feeling miserable if I had to go back just now..hehehe.)
Eating is still nearly impossible. I thought I was doing fairly well but it doesn't seem to have progressed in the last three days. I'm not consuming 2 whole cups of food per day yet. It's just too hard. I'm only drinking water at this stage- and an occasional 1/2 cup of latte when I go out (which I have so weak, it's really just warmed milk).
How are you managing to eat? Any other difficulties you've encountered?
I take it, you'll have some time off school? What age/subject do you teach?

Hi there, just wanted to wish you well for your surgery tomorrow. June 12th will be the start of your new lease on life with your sleeve. Enjoy your last meal of choice today...I had mine for lunch the day before my surgery. My husband took me to PF Changs then had a lighter dinner and final bit of something at 9 PM. All will be well and Desert Springs is the best hospital...I give it great accolades. Let us know how it all goes.

Hey CuriousGeorge- we're getting sleeved on the same DAY. Well, actually, on the same DATE. Except mine will be a day earlier than yours, since I'm in Australia! And we're both teachers. Yay for teachers! Boo for all the paperwork that keeps up chained to our desks...or logged onto our computers for hours on end (I'm sure it's a form of mind-control via technology)!

Hi there...was just wondering how you're doing and if you're going to the support group meeting on June 5th? Even though you're not sleeved, I don't know why you couldn't try. If you have doubts, call the office and find out if they would mind you being there, especially since your surgery is the following week. I look forward to meeting you if you do. I'm down 20 lbs for this first month and I am very happy about it. It hasn't been bad at all. It sure would be nice to be down another 20 lbs next month too, but I'll take what I can get, as this really is for the rest of our lives. Take care!

Hi there, welcome aboard to having your surgery in June. Thanks for your note. Are you having your surgery at Desert Springs or North Vista? I had mine at Desert Springs so I can only say what happened there. Those white stockings weren't so bad really and they want you to wear them 24 hrs. I took them off just before I left the hospital. Are you going to be joining the support group for sleevers? The meetings are the 1st Tues. of each month and I believe Dr. Atkinson conducts them. I plan on going to the one in June. Perhaps I'll see you there and if not, maybe at the one in July, after your surgery. Good luck to you. It's nice to meet people here that actually live in Vegas.

Hi! We are practically neighbors. Dr. Atkinson performed my surgery, and I read that he will be your surgeon as well in June! (My birth month) I wish you success!
