Hi there, I'm feeling great since my surgery. The first few weeks were rough for me. I wasn't losing much at all and I couldn't figure out why. Finally in April I started losing and lost almost 16 lbs in the month of April. Started taking an Aqua Zumba class in April at a local rec center so I'm thinking that helped with the weight loss too. Love my new way of life. How are you doing? How are things going for you? What area do you live in ? I'm in Valley Park. I had my surgery at Des Peres Hospital through the My New Self program. They've taken great care of me. Look forward to hearing more from you. Take care and have a great day.

Sooooo very wiped out! Good news is that in a few weeks it switches, and you will have amazing energy. I can't believe how much more energy I have and I'm still kinda in the beginning of the process really... Last night I did 45 minutes on the treadmill at a moderate pace, and then did a slow pace at a 4 incline for the last 15 minutes of that. I would NEVER have had the energy after work to do that before...that wiped out feeling will fade as your diet progresses and you heal

Oh! I was going to suggest you might want to invest in a body pillow, one of those long ones... It helped immensely when I started sleeping in a bed. It just supports your tummy enough to keep some pain at bay through the night....

I'm so sorry about the dry-heaving. But I am glad you like the crew... It'll start looking up from here on out, everyday a bit better than the last. My stall finally broke and I'm down a bit more everyday. Keep in touch!

Hey noticed you on the Surgery list and noticed you were in the St. Louis area. Howdy neighbor! LOL. Hope all has gone well and you're up and walking! If I can be of any help, I'm here. I had my surgery 2/22/12. Mine was at Des Peres Hospital through the My New Self program. Just wanted to say hello to a fellow St. Louisan!

    Go Blues!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Good luck to you.

Hope everything went well for you today! Right about now you are up and walking around the nurse's station I bet and wondering how in the hell they expect you to drink anything in your current state... ;-) Don't stress...this is the hard part, but if you can get through these first few days it is going to get soooo much better. I'm sending you out good thoughts and {{{{{vibes}}}}}. Now go on with the sipping and the walking
  7. Thank you!!!!! I'll keep you posted!!

Congratulations!!!! I'm feeling wonderful...tons of energy now and although I'm at a stall (normal for two to three weeks after) I'm losing inches and can tell a difference. The best advice I can give you to keep in mind after your surgery is to concentrate on hydration, don't be afraid to take the pain meds they prescribe when you get home since they do help, do NOT forget gas-X strips, and walk, walk, walk. Remember that with every day that goes by you will feel better. I'm so excited for you! And feel free to contact me if you need to ask anything or just vent about anything...And if you are like me and start to have a mini freak out a day or so before your date....contact me on here and remember that these guys are damn good at what they do and that the payoff is sooooo definitely worth it. Also what helped me,if you have access to You Tube....look up TheSlimJen and watch her video blogs...she had surgery at WeightWise as well and is soooo helpful in knowing what to expect at different stages.....Good luck!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Thanks a bunch sister! I'm feeling very good about all of it and moving forward. I'll keep ya posted!

Psych eval was for about an hour... You will LOVE Dr. Keller. It really feels like talking to a friend, and if I was ever in the market for a regular psychiatrist, I would want someone just like him. He is pretty funny too. Don't be nervous about it at all...he is basically making sure there are no underlying issues that might effect the success of the surgery, and if there are, he would schedule you for follow-up visits to help you deal. Let me know how it goes....

I can tell you that I am now 13 days out and all my incisions are healed, I can drink all my 64 oz of fluids no problem, and have had ZERO troble with getting my protein in as well... you will be exhausted for the first week or so...definitely....like just plain give out...but it does get better, and the more protein you get the more energy you have. I'm excited for you....It is the best thing I've done for myself for sure. I am down now to 250... Hope this helps, please feel free to ask anything as I don't mind questions at all...Please keep in touch and let me know how it's going
(Sorry I had to break up my post as I am apparently long winded..

Now, I had a rough awakening. I woke up and immediately started throwing up because of the anesthesia. But they gave me some anti-nausea meds that calmed it down pretty quick. Pain wasn't horrible. Uncomfortable due to the gas they "blow" into your stomach for surgery. I had no tubes in my throat, and no drain either. The nurses will let you rest for an hour or so, then they get you up and moving every hour to walk the halls...which is kinda fun cause you get to meet the other patients as they are also walking... and the walking will make you feel sooooo much better! They bring in some small medicine cups with water and tell you to drink them in a certain time period....I had no trouble. It was stange, I expected to have trouble getting the fluids in since I heard so many on here say they did....I had none. Still don't. I have had no dehydration at all... the nurses are amazing in their support. And the surgeon will update your familiy immediately after surgery, and then come see you the next morning...they give you a card with their cell phone number to call if you have any questions or trouble...which is pretty cool.

I don't mind questions at all! My starting weight at my initial visit was 285...and I am only 5' tall. You can imagine I resembled a basketball, lol. I did have to do a pre-op diet and the day of surgery, I weighed in at 261. Don't sweat the surgery....seriously. I made myself sick stressing over it. I checked in at 8:30am and they ran a urine test and then took me into pre-op. In pre-op they have you put the lovely gown on and get you in a bed...they also start your IV. The nurses there are great at calming your nerves. My nurse was the very first patient the clinic did the gastric sleeve on...she looks amazing BTW. I will tell you that in addition to the IV, they will also give you a shot of heperin in the side of your stomach...you will not even feel it. Seriously... Then in a bit the surgical nurse and anethstisiologist will come get you and roll you into ER. You will transfer beds and that will be about all you remember until you wake up in your room....

goblue121, it went ok from what the doctor said. It seems you don't bounce back as fast from the sleeve as you do with the bypass, from what I've heard other people saying, but I'm still glad I chose the sleeve over the bypass any day! The first few days were absolutely HELL, and I'm not kidding. I am so hungry still, but from what I've heard it is the brain hunger that I'm having. Lots of mental stuff to deal with also, not just physical. was getting close to dehydration. MY mom & husband had actually called the dr to tell him they were bringing me in for fluids when I begged them to give me 1 more day, (the truth was I couldn't move because my muscles hurt so bad) , needless to say God intervened and helped me with the drinking, those protein drinks are absolutely terrible! water is all I can manage but I do have to say it is getting better everyday. Hope all is well with your surgery. Please let me know any advice you may have for me. I'm willing to try anything to feel better

Feeling much better today, back at work 1/2 day. Glad to hear you have decided on WeightWise! They are amazing people, and a really great program. The personal attention you receive is amazing from the patient coordinators to the nutritionists, you will love these people. And the hospital crew was wonderful, my whole stay there was great. The pre-op nurses are so good at calming your nerves and I loved my day nurse! I had Dr. Walton, who is wonderful to work with, but I have heard great things about Dr. Broussard, and the few times I did run into him in the halls at the facility, he seemed so friendly and energetic... Good luck to you, feel free to message me with any questions!

2 weeks post op and not losing...

by goblue121 on 05-10-2012 at 09:45 PM
On April 24th I had my surgery. I weighed 252 and I'm 5'8". I lost 18 pounds when I weighed myself on the 2 week day. Now I started on solids and I gained 2 pounds!! I'm flipping out!

Has anyone else gone through this? Is this normal?

Thanks for any feedback! I'm really trying to be careful and I'm just scared that I'm not going to lose weight!

Not to be gross but would like feedback.

I had my surgery Tuesday. All has been well, but today I started getting cramps and diarrhea. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this after surgery? Sorry for such a yucky question but I'm on liquids and I know how important it is to Stay hydrated, So I'm a little concerned. Thanks!

Day of and day after surgery!

by goblue121 on 04-26-2012 at 03:56 AM
Weight Wise in Oklahoma City, just the best group ever! I was so pleased with the processes that they have out of town. Additionally Dr. Broussard is just a peach!

One thing I wasn't prepared for, was how sick and horrible I felt! I was sick, sick, sick! But they got they got that under control before I could leave the hospital.

They are great! Check them out!

I mean really rude.
