About Loverlyme
- Sleeved or not sleeved:
- I have had a gastric sleeve.
- Biography:
- Growing up my parents and doctors battled to help my put on weight. Golly-gee fellas, how the tables have turned!
Until the age of 30, I was reasonably in shape and actually worked in the camping industry teaching outdoor rec skills (sailing, abseiling, bushcrafts, etc).
Since turning 30, have gradually put on enormous amounts of weight. I have done some successful dieting but always end up putting on more than when I started- usually because I can't stand the diet anymore.
I now had to seek out more drastic measures since everything seems to be breaking down in my body. I have a terrible lower back (came on 2 years ago) and can't walk or stand for more than 5 minutes at a time. This had made me even more sluggish and I barely go out except to places where I know I can get respite easily. As a result, I've put on even more weight and become more lethargic. My knees aren't good; I can feel the strain on my heart; and I'm heading towards a load of other problems. It's definitely time to act.
I'm not a veggie-lover except the carb types that we're not supposed to have too much. I hate soups and broths so no idea how I'll cope with pre/post op diets.
Just been sleeved by Dr Ken Loi at St George Private Hospital. He did a great job!

Okay, it's been ages since I've been here- on the site or the blog.
Thought I'd just record a few notes for my poor little memory gaps that I know I'll be having some time in the near future.
I saw the surgeon and dietician last week.
I am down to 93kg now. (That's 205lbs in the 'old' scale.) Over 22kgs lost. I have lost, according to the dietician, 45% of my excess weight. She says the average at this stage (about 3 months out) is 35% so I'm still ahead. Yet,

Just weighed myself for the first time since before the operation.
Since I can't see the actual dates on my ticker, I thought I'd record my mini-losses here (for my own records). No need for anyone to take notice but me!
My starting weight: 115kg = 308lbs
(I was 117kg before going to first appointment, but I don't count that)
The day of the operation: 108.7 = 291lbs
Today (5 days after surgery): 104.5 = 280lbs
The best thing? Feeling

Hi everyone... It's been four days since my op and I'm home from hospital.
I was in a top private hospital (all paid up thanks to my fabulous health fund). All I had to pay for was the surgeon and anaesthetist's fees (about $7000 all up- will have to wait to see how much of that I get back). After that, there was no worry about how long I needed to be in the hospital as that was all covered, thank goodness.
I had a gorgeous view over Brighton-le-Sands, San Souci and

I had my first appointment one-on-one with the surgeon today. (Plus the dietician, of course, and the nurse who took me through the details of the operation.)
I was all prepared to ask the doc why he charges so much more than some of the other surgeons around Sydney... but I just didn't bother in the end. He is local; he is very professional and personable; he keeps abreast of advancements. I think I am in safe hands.
There didn't seem to be a lot of 'go away and consider

Of course, this isn't really the beginning but it feels like a new start. The time has come to do something DRASTIC. And surgery is drastic. No matter if 'others' think it's a cop-out, I know it's a major leap from any previous steps I've taken before this.
I rushed home from work today to be home in time to phone the doctor's office. I've booked into a seminar for Wed 21 Feb 2012. This is the first step in getting in to see this doctor.
I'm seeing Dr Ken Loi at St
