Kim, I was in Puerto Rico for a day while I was on a cruise some years back and loved every minute of it! You look happy and fit and to me that's the best thing to be. 10's and 8's....fabulous. A single digit clothing size....whew, what a dream. I think 2013 will be even better for you as you learn to enjoy life every day in a new and healthy body. Keep up the good work, Kim....I'm using your example and pedaling hard. Maybe I'll see you at GHP. I'll be there Tuesday for my 6 week.

Hi Kim, I hope you are having a good new year. I just wanted you to know that I am doing very well and have had no real complications. I'm on purees and that is certainly a pain but I have only one more week. (not that softs are a party) I hope you are at goal or at a weight you feel good about.

Well, that was a lot easier than I anticipated. I was out of the hospital in one day. I could get in and keep in the amount Dr. Foote wanted me to. I have a bit of gas and occassional spasming but all in all I feel good. Now I have to get rid of the darn extra operation bloat so that I can start losing for real.

Thanks, Kim. Yeah, it's off to Sophia House to stay tonight and then surgery is scheduled for 7:30am. (unless they change it when St. Mary's surgery department calls me later today) We have to be in the surgery area at 5:00am, that's why we are staying in G.R. for tonight.
I'm shooting for a "slim on a bike" picture like yours....one day at a time, like you say. I will send a detailed report on this site so that others behind me can benefit from my experience. See you on the losers bench. Chris

Hi Kim, I got my date! 12/11/12 at St. Mary Hospital. Are you familiar with that hospital? I don't even know where it is so I am going to look it up. I start my dreaded pre-op diet the Monday after Thanksgiving.

    Hello,
Michigan in the fall, oh how I miss that crispness, the colors and the leaves crunching under my feet.
Clear black starry skies and the smell of firewood at night. Enjoy that for me. Going to the Cider Mill-( I dont like the Cider) but the whole experience and smells. Getting ready for Halloween. Its just not the same here in Cal.
    Take care.

    Hello K,
Thank you for responding. A size 8 congrats. I was a size 8 once when I was 20. It would be amazing to be that size again. Did you get to the Gym? I need someone to drag me to one. I have purchaed size 14 clothes for my wish list clothing and would be so happy to wear them. Im getting there, in larges now. Exercing helps lose weight, the math is easy calories in need to be burned and more. I was walking 2 15 minute breaks then walking the dog at night, but Sept is usually our hottest month and it was. It was 106 yesterday at lunch, freakishly hot for October. I'm better in am, by the time I get home from work I'm too tired and lazy. 2-3 days a week I visit a shut in and take her dinner. Somehow I keep losing 2-3 pounds at a time stay the same for a week or more then and lose 1 to 3 pounds. So I am very happy about that. I had a very stressful day yesterday and went to Panda express and ordered the usual pre surg meal. Ate 1 cheese raggoon, 4 bites of orange chicken ,2 pieces of brocolli- no beef, and 3 forks of rice. My stomach was churning. Too greasy. My son was happy, another free meal for him. Im basically a vegetarian now. Black beans topped w/mexican cheese on a 4 inch corn tostata is my favorite meal that doesnt upset my stomach. Who would have ever ever thought that. too funny. Sugar free popsicles give me fluids and taste good. Im noticing that I can jug 4 gulps of water now. That worries me. I do not want to stretch my sleeve.
    Good luck, take care, Ava

About KMelendez
Sleeved or not sleeved:
I have had a gastric sleeve.
Biography:
I have battled with weight most of my adult life and have yo-yoed up and down many times. What led to my decision to make the call to the bariatric surgeon? In March 2011, I applied for a higher position job that I did not believe I had a chance of getting, and was shocked when it was offered to me. I could not be happier in my professional life and my personal life was great as well. I just wasn't happy with myself - I felt like a failure because I could not keep my weight under control. My PCP told me it wasn't if I would be fighting with Diabetes, but when and I needed to take the weight off in order to prolong the inevitable.

Heartburn and Acid Reflux!

by KMelendez on 12-10-2012 at 03:28 AM
I have been struggling the past two months with bad heartburn that just recently graduated to terrible acid reflux. I was awaken in the night by awful acid coming up. I didn't dare swallow because it burned so bad. I have never had this experience before. After calling my bariatric doctor, I was put on Prilosec 2xday, Pepcid AC Complete 1xday, and a prescription of Carafate 3xday. Things have settled down, but still quite a bit of burning in my belly. Anyone have this same problem, and if so,

From Size 18 to Size 10

by KMelendez on 08-21-2012 at 04:07 AM
It has been 8 months since my surgery and I am now wearing a Size 10 comfortably. Just went through my clothes from last winter to sell on consignment and cannot believe how much my body has changed from this surgery. Having the surgery was the best thing I have done for myself. A co-worker gave me two bags of size 10 pants that she grew out of and they all fit! My little sister who has always been smaller than me can't wear a size 10.

Beyond Comprehension

by KMelendez on 07-24-2012 at 03:51 AM
I have a very well to do aunt that I absolutely adore, and she has been one of my biggest cheerleaders through this whole bariatric surgery process. She sent me a big box of clothes early this spring and many of the clothes were size 8 and 10. I have never been in a size 8 in my life, and did not have any hopes of being able to fit into any of them. But they were of such high quality and designer names that I didn't have the heart to donate them or sell them in a consignment store so I stuck

New Passion: Biking

by KMelendez on 07-03-2012 at 05:55 AM
Bought a bike on Craig's List yesterday and my husband and I took off on a 13 mile trail ride. Not even a possibility 6 months ago. I would have been too exhausted and out of breath to make the challenging hills or the duration. This surgery is such a blessing to me and my family/friends. I know what they mean about starting to live now: without the weight dragging you down, you have energy to get out of the spectator stands and get on the field! Love it!!

More Energy = More Life

by KMelendez on 07-03-2012 at 05:52 AM
I cannot believe how much more energy I have now that 70 lbs. of weight has been lifted from my body. I don't need as much sleep, I don't tire as easily (unless I don't eat my protein or drink fluids), and I am so much more open to doing things. It doesn't feel like I have an anchor on my body just to do things. This surgery has been a Godsend to me. I have struggled with my weight for so long and felt like such a failure every time I would lose weight and gain it right back on that my self-esteem
