Hi Karne, I had my surgery in Houston on December 5th and I have done fantastic!! I know I have been very blessed and fortunate that I have had very little discomfort and absolutely no nausea what so ever!! I actually forget at times I have had the surgery. I am in my third week post op and adding different foods every day now. I am learning how to gauge my portion sizes. I am able to eat about 1/4 to 1/2 cup at a time. I am very satisfied with the amount I am able to eat. I am very pleased with my surgery and recovery so far. My experience from the beginning has been great! I am so sorry the band has not worked for you. I see where somd are now having the band removed and getting the sleeve. I wish you luck as you go through this decision process and can only hope if you decide to be sleeved you have as smooth a procedure as I have had. Good luck Karne!!!
  2. Thank you to everyone who responded and to all the welcomes.

Many of your say " do your research" as far as the physicians in mexico go. I have went to their websites - they all "sound" and look professional. They have Spanish credentials - and all have glowing testimonials from patients. The reviews on this forum tend to favor Dr. Kelly - and I tend to favor a hospital setting due to my surgery being a revision. However, I am wondering what other "homework" I need to do...before making my decision. Is there someplace special to look besides pulling up the doctors by names - and then their hospitals... along with this site? Any further direction would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Karen
  3. Ok.. I feel better now - I am looking to do a revision to a sleeve.. so it worried me - infection rates are a big issue with any surgery - may I ask what surgeon you used? I am going to have to go to Mexico because my insurance refuses to pay for a revision. Thanks for clearing your info up.. and I am glad you are doing ok... and hey.. at least your tat's look good huh....

Hi. I'm sorry my message must have been confusing, lol. I HAD 3 incisions that got infected, they took about 7 weeks to heal. I have one tiny one that is only open a sliver. I am a diabetic, and the only thing I've been able to heal are my tattoos without 2 rounds of antibiotics. I also am allergic to adhesive, so the steri strips didn't help much either. I was a revision from a band, and the same thing happened then too.

    Thanks for your concern.

Dr. Alvarez - sleeve revision

by Kc4desert on 12-21-2011 at 03:16 PM
I would like to visit with someone who has had surgery with Dr. Alvarez. I am trying to decide between Dr. Kelly and Dr. Alvarez. Dr. A is more expensive - but I have seen many more posts regarding Dr. Kelly. Is there a reason?

Any experiences good or bad would be helpful. Karen
