About Irene B
- Sleeved or not sleeved:
- I have not had a gastric sleeve.
- Biography:
- I live in Australia and I have been overweight since about my mid 20's. I am now 52 yrs old. I had a major trauma at that time and I just didn't cope (I hadn't been coping for years), so clearly I started eating way too much. I have had periods of time where I lost weight, but generally it was lose a bit, gain more back, yoyo dieting all of the time and I think it eventually took it's toll and I just find it unbelievably hard to lose weight at all these days.
I finally had a gastric band put in, in 2009 and had limited success with it (ironically I was offered the sleeve by my surgeon, but I chickened out). We moved interstate a few months after and had to find a new doctor and things just went downhill from there. I had huge issues with eating quality foods and in the end of was mashing more stuff, even drinking was an issue. I finally had enough and had it removed in 2014. I felt so much better, even started to lose a bit of weight and then about two months later I seriously hurt my knee and it took 2 1/2years to get better. The only good thing is that I maintained my weight and I a little under the weight that I was when I was originally banded. I had no intention of having the sleeve done as I had really had enough, but recently my husband said that he thought we wouldn't be able to continue hiking and finally I just realised that I wasn't ready for that to stop. We have hiked in Alaska, New Zealand, lots of places around Australia. We have a huge bucket list of hikes that we would like to do all around the world and I am desperate to be able to complete that list in the least amount of pain possible and the only way to do that is to be a really healthy weight. So saying that, I am hoping to be sleeved in February. Got lots of things to do before then, so that is the earliest I can manage. I am very excited to get started, it just finally feels just right. I just want to make sure that I nail down the nutrition side of things. I think if I can do that then I should be successful.
My starting weight is 116/117kg's (255 - 257lbs)
Looking to get down to 70kg's (154lb)
But would love to get down to 60kg's (132lb)
