Thank you very much Luann! I am not sure how to approach the subject with my doctor knowing what his reaction may be? How do you get the insurance/cost and it covers complications?

I was sleeved a few years ago in Mexico. Dr. Almanza isn't my surgeon so I'm not part of the group to post a reply about infection.
Insurance may not cover complications - not because it was done in Mexico but because you go private pay / not through insurance, it isn't a covered surgery & complications may not be covered. I bought travel insurance for medical tourists. And I got an infection - but turns out maybe because the way my doctor documented the problem - my health insurance never denied the claim. I don't know why I lucked out. All I can tell you is that I probably would have had a stroke from fear, the week after my surgery when I went back home & it was clear I was growing some sort of abscess - had I not bought the insurance & I was worried about the cost. This way I wasn't afraid to call up my doctor & be seen as soon as possible. And it's a good thing I told her about it ahead of time, and got a clear yes she was willing to treat me for any follow up issues on my return. that would have been an awkward conversation to have after the fact, if you run into trouble.
Good luck to you. I had a very good surgeon, but I may have got the infection from the OR or the irrigation solution used. He was responsible & stayed in communication with my US doctor. That's all you can ask - any surgeon can have a complication.
