Hi Alison, How are you feeling? How did everything go with Dr. Almanza? I know you may not be up to it but someone sent me a very very scary article about him and I am freaking out now. I am all set with my flight, date and everything and now I am thinking of switching to Dr. Ariel Ortiz due to his cruedentials and association with the US. Anyway anything you can share would be wonderful and again I have 2 weeks so only when you feel well enough. I'm sending you good vibes and big hugs for a speedy recovery.
  2. thinking of you! Hope you are doing well
  3. Hi Duane,

    Hi Alison,
I hope to have surgery feb 5, just trying to get travel arrangements made. I will be going alone also. So we should both now have someone to go with.
  6. Hi Moving Forward,

I will be by myself (actually with all of my new found friends from the forum!). It will be nice to be sharing the experience with some who are going through it at the same time. I feel so fortunate to have found all of you! See you in Mexico!!!

Hey Alison! I am beyond excited to be having the procedure. Are you bringing a guest? I am bringing a family member. Staying at the Real del rio hotel.
  8. Hi Jainee,

I am very happy for you too! I see you are having your surgery in the states? We will definitely have to compare stories! Do you know anyone else having surgery at the same place as you? I think there are several people on the forum who are having surgery around the same time as me and same surgeon (Dr. Almanza). Sooo excited!!!!!! Let's keep in touch!

That's great, very happy for you. What a great new adventure for both of us. I am doing surgery Feb 5th, so lets see how we both go....
  10. Hi there, Yes, I am going through with the surgery. Booked the plane tickets yesterday and sent in my deposit for surgery. I am going alone and that doesn't bother me. I have traveled quite a bit by myself. It will be sort of cool to be with others that are going through the same process. I will let you know how it goes.

Feeling Happy!

by AlisonThoren on 02-17-2015 at 09:06 AM
It has been 12 days since surgery and I am down 12-1/2 pounds! I started going to the gym at 1 week post-op (walking on the indoor track). I am used to going to the gym, so this is actually a lighter regimen for me. I have been walking 2-3 miles daily. The weather was so beautiful this past weekend that I hiked with my best friend. Hiking in Colorado is off the charts! Life is great and I am feeling very motivated!

Crying in Denver....

Due to mechanical problems they called in a different plane that could not accommodate all of the passengers. As a result, I was bumped to the next flight. I called Dr. Almanza's office because the new plane won't land until 6:40 pm....they assured me the driver would wait. So upsetting and stressful to deal with this the day before surgery. I need a hug. :-(

Snow, really???

by AlisonThoren on 02-04-2015 at 12:27 PM
At the airport, thankfully. Getting here was quite the challenge this morning. That's okay, I am off to sunny, Mexico!

Started the day with coffee and my Premiere Protein Shake. I am okay, not too hungry, but I did bring my chicken boullion in the event I am hungry on the flight. I am missing my usual Bloody Mary's at the airport (I always have them when I fly....not because I am nervous, but as a way of celebrating the trip).

Time to make some phone calls to

Ready for tomorrow!

by AlisonThoren on 02-03-2015 at 11:36 PM
I am all packed up and ready to go to Mexico tomorrow. Hopefully the snow will not delay my departure and pick up at the San Diego Airport.

I am not really sure what to expect with the surgery being done in a foreign country. I am not scared of the surgery, I am concerned about the communication.

I will blog again tomorrow night from the hotel. Time to head to bed now. Want to be rested for the travel day.

The Journey has begun, again.

I had lapband surgery in 2008, and unfortunately it had to be removed in 2014 due to erosion. I had tremendous success with it. I lost over 100 pounds. Now the weight is creeping back up and clothes that once fit are no impossible to squeeze into. I am prepared for a life long change with the gastric sleeve. From what I can see, the rules to follow are similar to those of lapband, so, since I was so successful with that, I think I will be just fine with the sleeve surgery.
