We just had our meeting with dr Ortiz, I like him he seems very knowledgeable I'm not worried anymore I'll just be glad when it's over and I can begin my new journey, I can't even imagine buying a smaller size of clothes. Thanks for the encouragement. My surgery is at 2

HI! Thanks for messaging me it has been a pretty easy journey fortunately. I've lost about 15 inches and over 24lbs since surgery. I'm pretty much able to eat anything it just takes me a really long time. I have to remind myself to eat as slow as possible and getting down enough water is pretty hard but other than that its been great. How have you been? Hope the last 6 weeks have treated you well

Thanks so much! Everything went great! Dr. Ortiz is fantastic. I appreciate your words of encouragement
  6. I am feeling really good. I have a little bit of heartburn but apparently that's very common for most people until 2 months or so post op. Tips-pack comfortable clothes. You will be bloated and swollen. Capri style jogging pants, pajama bottoms, casual sundresses, bikini underwear that sit low. Pretty much the same day as surgery as you get up walking around a nurse can help you get out of your "gown" and into some clothes - they'll help put the IV bag through a sleeve etc. It's all about comfort ! You'll want slippers for sure to walk the hospital hall and socks for in the bed if you find you get cold easy. Also-although this didn't happen to me-and in the spirit of more information for you is better than less - for some of the patients they said initially "do not trust your sensation for gas - from your bowel". This typically happens after the burping which comes first but they do give you an injection to help get your bowel moving again which is really important and for me more relief than burping. Some though - needed to throw out some clothes Also gas-x sublinguals are a life saver ! You can begin taking them right after surgery. They are like the Listerine strips that melt on your tongue. They come in Cherry or Mint. They DO work. They will help your gas to move out which you want to happen as soon as possible! If you have any other questions don't hesitate to email ... I'll answer all as best I can ! Excited for you !

Thank you so much for the message! I'm glad to hear your experience went well, how are you feeling now? Any tips you could give me on packing would be hugely appreciated!! I've never really gone anywhere before (never even flown before!!) So I am feeling anxious about packing!! Anything you wish you had while you were there?

Everyone loses differently - my journey ....

by HeathierMe on 06-07-2014 at 09:20 AM
Prior to surgery I had lost 20lbs as a combination of a bariatric diet and pre-surgery diet. I had my surgery on March 21 and am down another 40lbs post surgery so 60 all in. The way I lose has been different and I have come to accept it. I thought I would share because at first I was very discouraged. For the first 4 weeks after surgery I lost weight every day..and then ..my first stall. It lasted for seven days and then I started to lose again for about 5 days. Then another stall..this one

Tracking? I am now a believer....

by HeathierMe on 05-20-2014 at 09:23 PM
So on Mother's Day I got my fitbit. Love it. I have just now discovered myfitnesspal.com. I have been able to sync it to my fitbit so it automatically downloads my daily exercise and calorie burn...however i have now begin tracking everything I eat! I have had 3 stalls since my surgery 2 months ago tomorrow..based on tracking for just the last 2 days I believe I have figured it out! I am just not eating enough! I am consuming about 700 calories. I am hitting about 80g of protein, 45-50 g of

Tough on myself....

by HeathierMe on 05-19-2014 at 07:35 AM
So here it is. After all of my "doing so great" posts..I feel today like I am not doing so great. Tomorrow I will be 2 months post op. I was 228.8 post surgery and today 194.9. For the last 7 days I have fluctuated from 194.7 - 194.9. This wouldn't be driving me so crazy if it wasn't my third stall already only 2 months out. First stall lasted 10 days, second lasted 7 and now today this one is 7. I have started exercising (fast walking) a lot. I walk about 2 miles at a fast pace

Fitbit to get a Bit More Fit !!

by HeathierMe on 05-11-2014 at 07:38 PM
Happy Mother's Day to all ! I decided instead of a meal out etc. that for Mother's Day from my kids I wanted a Fitbit ! Have you heard of it? Essentially it counts your activity and sleep patterns. You wear it in a bracelet. You can check it out at Fitbit.com I am not a salesrep for them lol so here is the whole reason for my post. I am 6 weeks post surgery. The time when my surgeon has said it will be safe to go gung ho with exercise. I have always had a pretty sedentary lifestyle. Well

Monthly Cycle - need to ask - men need not read :)

by HeathierMe on 05-05-2014 at 06:30 PM
So my cycle finished literally two days before my surgery which is March 21. Then 10 days post surgery I got "my cycle" again. Friday for me was 5 weeks post and I have now gotten my "cycle again" . Essentially I have cycled 3 times in 7 weeks. I have never had this issue before. Have other women experienced this post surgery ? I just had my Dr. visit and all seems well - my blood work for example is all normal. Is it maybe just because of rapid weight loss? I have
