Oh yes I forgot to tell you... One more thing.. Sleeve vs Lap band... My friend had lapband and had complications with the band and ended up having a second surgery to have the sleeve done... This worried me so I talked my surgeon and told him my concerns and he told me that although the sleeve is a more evasive surgery he highly recommend it for me because heaven forbid the lapband didnt work and I ended up having to have a second surgery! He also said the surgery cost the same for lapband or sleeve... I figured well if I want to most success rate and for this to be a my life I might as well go with the sleeve and save my self the stress of a second surgery later on... Good luck!

    Hi Pam and Rowland,
I read your post and wanted to tell you a little something about the blood thinners and a few questions you might want to ask your doctor about as well.
First off a little about me... I am a T10 T-11 Paraplegic and had gone to see my would be surgeon, he told me he would do my surgery, I was so happy to hear that he was willing to take my case being super high risk with my disability. However he did want to take a few extra precautions to make my surgery a success. Although I was not on any blood thinners before surgery I was on them afterward due to my poor blood circulation, he also had a filter put into place about 2 weeks before my date to prevent any blood clots going to my heart... Turns out he did the right thing I ended up with 3 blood clots after my surgery!!! (who know...?) So what I recommend is since Rowland will need be off the blood thinners before the surgery, you may want to ask if he should have a filter put in as an add precaution. It is an out patient procedure and I only had a slight discomfort at the incision site. (if you don't already know Pam its goes thru the neck and is done in the x-ray dept.)
Anyhow the blood thinners after surgery should not be an issue it just the week before or so he need to be off the the meds I am sure that has you concerned the most.
Pam and Rowland I wish you all the best of luck and hope to hear how things go for you.
    Jenn

hi - you posted in a group that I'm not a member of regarding blood thinners - my doc actually gave me a strong blood thinner with the sleeve as he does with all his patients - not sure why. I did have a problem that didn't come to understand till months later. My iron CRIT level dropped to 21, almost had a transfusion. We didn't put 2 & 2 together till later, because in the hospital I kept asking if the did anything in my lower left abdomen they said no, I said it really hurt and was pushing on my bladder they said it was gas bubbles from the surgery... fast forward 2 months, had my well woman exam and the doc said something wasn't right and sent me for an MRI - I had a hematoma where my ovaries were, it was from the surgery and the reason for my iron to be so low. I had a friend who is an RN and had this surgery be my inspiration, she has done great, her husband had the surgery just a month ago, and because of me telling the world about what an awesome thing this is in giving me my life back I have inspired 3 others to start their journey. I am a HUGE advocate for this surgery vs the lap band - search this forum for folks who had the band and have or are converting to the sleeve. Good luck!

I used to fly for fun. I would like to lose enough weight that I can fit into a Cesna 172. As for right now I am needing back surgery and the Neurosurgeon will not do the surgery until I lose weight. He was mad during my last visit because I gained 10 lbs even though I was on a diet! He didn't seem to understand that I have been trying and my wife is proof because she has lost 56 lbs. I need help!
